About MemberPress ConvertKit
Your member list and your email list are two different lists
Anyone selling content by subscription tends to have the same person in two places: as a member in WordPress and as a contact in their email tool. As long as nobody touches anything, everything matches. Over time they drift apart: someone changes their email, another person signs up and never reaches your newsletter, and you end up writing to an address nobody reads anymore. MemberPress ConvertKit is the add-on that connects MemberPress with Kit (the current name of ConvertKit) so those two lists stop living separately.
Kit is an email marketing service built for creators: capture forms, broadcasts, templates, autoresponders, tags, automation workflows and landing pages. All of that is still built in Kit. The add-on is the bridge between your membership and that tool.
A real walkthrough: from buying a membership to the first email
Imagine you sell a recipe archive by subscription. This is how the path would look:
- You connect the two accounts. You need MemberPress running on your site and a Kit account. The add-on does not work on its own and does not replace either of them.
- You write from Kit. The welcome email, broadcasts, autoresponders and tags are designed in Kit, with its templates and workflows.
- The member changes their email. We'll look at it in the next section: this is where lists usually break.
One limit worth being clear about: the add-on syncs, it doesn't write. It doesn't create sequences or templates for you. Before planning automations that depend on each person's membership, check in the settings which member data travels to Kit and whether you can segment with it.
If a member changes their email, Kit follows
It's the silliest case and the one that dirties the most lists. A member goes to their account page and enters a different address. Without an integration, your newsletter keeps the old one: renewal emails or new-content emails go to an abandoned inbox and the person stops hearing about what they paid for.
With this add-on, the subscriber's email in Kit is updated when the member changes it in their account. You do nothing, and you don't end up with two records for the same person, one alive and one dead.
When syncing fails, there is a trail
Connections between services fail in barely visible ways: an expired key, a call that never arrives, a subscriber that can't be found. The add-on logs subscriber lookups, updates and failed calls to the Kit API. If a member says they aren't receiving your emails, you have somewhere to look before you start suspecting everything.
That said, it helps you diagnose, not fix things by itself. If the problem is in the Kit account, it will have to be solved there.
Questions before connecting MemberPress with Kit
Does it work without MemberPress?
No. It is a MemberPress add-on and only makes sense if you already manage your members with it.
Do I need a Kit account?
Yes. Emails, forms, automations and landing pages are created and sent from Kit.
Is it the same as ConvertKit?
Yes, Kit is the new name of ConvertKit. If you already had an account under the old name, it is the same service.
Does it set up my email automations?
No. The content and logic of your emails are defined in Kit.
