Students who pay for the course and vanish by lesson three
Building an online course often ends up as loose lessons on hidden pages, access granted by hand and no idea who has progressed and who opened the first video and never came back. In a course business that matters: people who finish recommend you and buy the next one, people who drop out ask for a refund or go quiet. MemberPress Courses is the course add-on for MemberPress.
From recorded video to certified student: the journey with MemberPress Courses
Imagine you have a photography course with videos already recorded. This is how the process would go:
- You structure the curriculum. The visual drag-and-drop builder lets you arrange sections and lessons.
- You decide how a lesson gets completed. You can require a minimum time on the lesson or that the student watches the video (YouTube, Vimeo or uploaded) before marking it as done. That way "completed" means something.
- You check what was learned. Quizzes reinforce the content and the gradebook gathers the results in one place.
- You protect and sell. Access is controlled with MemberPress access rules. You can sell the course inside a membership or as a one-time purchase, or bundle it with other premium content to make the offer worth more.
- You close with a certificate. Completion certificates can be reset, set to expire and shared, which is useful if your training needs renewing or if you want students to show it off and bring others to you.
Progress is recorded automatically lesson by lesson, so you know where people get stuck and can improve exactly that lesson.
The limits within the journey
Courses does not work on its own: it relies on MemberPress for access and payments. If you want to keep the full history of quiz attempts or assignment submissions, you also need the updated Quizzes, Assignments and Gradebook add-ons. And some course tools vary depending on your MemberPress plan, so check what yours includes before designing your course around a specific feature.

Can I sell the course without a membership?
Yes. It can be sold through a membership or as a one-time purchase, and also bundled with other paid content.
Does it work if my videos are on YouTube or Vimeo?
Yes. The option to require watching the video before completing the lesson supports YouTube, Vimeo or uploaded video.
Can a student retake a quiz and keep their previous attempts?
Multiple attempts are supported and the full history is kept, but the Quizzes, Assignments and Gradebook add-ons must be up to date.
What you still have to solve yourself even after installing MemberPress Courses
The plugin organizes, protects, measures and certifies, but it does not write your lessons or decide how demanding your course should be. Before launching, define what a student must do to count a lesson as finished and what result deserves a certificate. If you leave everything open, you will have tidy courses and students who are just as lost.
