About Meta Box Favorite Posts
Anyone comparing five hotels in five tabs ends up losing three
People looking for a hotel, a car or a book rarely decide in a single visit. They open several pages, leave them in tabs, close the browser and the next day can't remember which one was the good one. If your site lives on slow decisions like these, a visitor who can't save what they liked is a visitor who starts from scratch somewhere else.
Meta Box Favorite Posts adds a button to mark any content as a favorite and come back to it later, just like a store's wish list. It works with registered users and, if you turn it on, with guests too.
From a listing page to the favorites dashboard, step by step
Imagine a used-car portal built with a custom content type for the listings. This is how the plugin plays out:
1. The visitor sees a listing they like
By default the plugin places a simple button before or after the content. If your design calls for the button next to the price or inside the results grid, you can use the mbfp-button shortcode wherever you want. And it isn't limited to blog posts: it works with any content type on your site.
2. They click the button without an account
Here you make a business decision. Allowing guests removes friction, because almost nobody signs up just to save a listing they aren't sure about yet. It's a plugin option: if you leave it off, only registered users can save. Check in the demo what happens to a guest's favorites when they later create an account.
3. They come back and open their list
The plugin integrates MB User Profile, which lets you build a registration page and a dashboard page where each user sees their favorites. How it looks depends on your theme and on how you build the page.
4. They decide outside the plugin
Meta Box Favorite Posts doesn't charge, book or compare. If you sell with WooCommerce, payment stays in your store. The plugin only keeps buyers from losing sight of what they were considering.
Common questions before installing Meta Box Favorite Posts
Does it work without Meta Box?
No. You need Meta Box installed and activated. The extensions it uses (MB Settings Page, MB User Profile and MB User Meta) are already included, so you don't have to install them separately.
Is it only for posts?
No, it works with any content type: listings, books, products or any other you have created.
Can it be combined with other Meta Box extensions?
Yes, it can be used with other extensions without any problem.
Do visitors have to register?
Only if you decide so. There is an option to allow guests to save favorites.
Listings, reading and stores: where it pays off most
It makes the most sense when visitors need to compare or come back later:
- Listing portals (hotels, cars): saving options to decide at their own pace.
- Book reading sites: a personal shelf of favorite titles.
- Stores: items saved for a future purchase.
On a blog with only a few posts, it probably adds nothing.
