About myCred Time Based Reward

Getting people back to your site shouldn't depend on you publishing something new

Many sites with a community, a shop or courses share the same problem: the user signs up, does what they came to do and has no reason to return tomorrow. Publishing more content helps, but it forces you to produce non-stop. A habit is built with a fixed appointment: something small that waits for the user every so often, whatever is happening on your blog.

myCred Time Based Reward is a myCred add-on that turns that appointment into a reward. You define how much time must pass, the user claims it when the moment arrives, and then it repeats according to the recurrence you set.

Claim, wait and claim again

You create a reward, set how often it can be claimed and decide what it delivers. These are the pieces you work with:

  • myCred points or badges: you choose whether time is rewarded with one or the other.
  • Minimum and maximum limits: you control the size of the reward so it doesn't get out of hand.
  • Time counter: it shows how long is left until the next reward.
  • Customizable pop-up messages: they invite users to claim the reward, and the reward appears in the label field of the window itself.
  • Messages for guests: you can show a text to people who haven't logged in yet so they know there is a reward to claim.
  • "Must Include" option: it can be turned on or off at any time.

Three sites, three ways to use the clock

Community or forum

Here the problem is usually the silent visit: people who come in, read and leave without taking part. A periodic reward gives them a reason to stop by.

Online shop

If you already hand out points in your shop, the time reward works as a friendly nudge for customers to look at the catalog again. Set the maximum carefully: a reward that is too generous and too frequent ends up devaluing your own points.

Academy or members area

People who pay for content often leave it forgotten after two weeks. A periodic appointment with the counter in view helps students or members remember that your platform exists.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reward with badges instead of points?

Yes, you can choose between myCred badges or points as the reward.

Can I limit the amount that is given?

Yes, there are minimum and maximum reward limit settings.

Do visitors without an account see anything?

You can create messages aimed at guests so they claim their reward. Check in the demo exactly how that message looks before you decide.

Does it work on a multisite network?

Yes, it can be installed on a single site or on a multisite installation.

It needs myCred and rewards the passing of time, not what the user does

It is an add-on: it doesn't work alone, you need myCred installed, because the points and badges it hands out belong to that system. Its logic is also the clock: the reward comes from waiting and claiming. If you want to reward specific actions, such as commenting or buying, that belongs to other myCred pieces, not to this add-on.
