Newsletter Automated Newsletters Addon: a newsletter that goes out even when you forget
Anyone with a blog and a subscriber list tends to end up the same way: they send a newsletter with enthusiasm the first month, another six weeks later and then nothing, because every send means copying links, choosing images and laying everything out. And subscribers get used to a rhythm: an irregular newsletter gets ignored and ends up in the trash.
This Newsletter add-on builds the send for you. On the schedule you set, it picks up the new content on your site (posts, events, products or custom post types) and sends it with your template. Your job stops being laying out every send and becomes publishing regularly.
A weekly channel, from template to Friday's send
Imagine a recipe blog that wants to send everything published during the week every Friday. This would be the walkthrough.
1. You design the template once
In the dynamic blocks you choose which content goes in and set stopping rules for when there are no new articles. Note: it is an add-on, so it needs the Newsletter plugin installed and does not work on its own.
2. You choose when it goes out
The schedule can be hourly, daily (at 8, at 9 or at 3pm), weekly or monthly, with days of the week or days of the month, once or twice a day. For the recipe blog: Friday morning.
3. You decide who gets it
You can send it to the whole list or only to a specific audience, filtering by lists and language.
4. You go on vacation without watching anything
If you published nothing new, the add-on detects it and skips to the next scheduled send. Nobody receives an empty newsletter that teaches your subscribers to ignore you. Afterwards, each generated newsletter has its status and full statistics, like a regular campaign.
One limit worth knowing: it does not send the instant you publish. The closest option is a channel that checks for new content every hour. If you are in a hurry, the «send now» button in the channel settings generates the newsletter immediately.
Questions from people about to set it up
Does it work with custom post types that have no specific integration? Yes, the custom post types block generates the newsletter when content of that type appears. If you need a very specific layout or data extraction, you need a custom block, which takes just a few lines of code.
Can I offer different frequencies? Yes. Channels are unlimited, each with its own template and schedule, so you can set up a daily, a weekly and a monthly one and let each subscriber choose how many messages they want.
Can I send the newsletter at the exact moment I publish? Not directly, and that is deliberate: sending right after something is created raises the risk of sending a mistake.
One channel per language, better than separate lists
On a multilingual site, the way to work is to create one channel per language. Each channel targets the subscribers who use that language, with no need for lists, and its template includes only the content in that language with the fixed texts adapted. The practical approach is to fine-tune one channel, duplicate it, and change only what is essential for the next language.
When your publishing rhythm is not a steady trickle
- If you publish very irregularly, the stopping rules will prevent empty sends, but you will get fewer newsletters than you expected.
- The add-on assembles what has already been published: if you want a letter with your own voice every week, that is still your job.
