About Newsletter Sendinblue Addon

Newsletter Sendinblue Addon: taking your sends off your hosting server

Sending a newsletter from your own hosting often ends in emails landing in spam, hourly limits that cut your list in half, or a provider asking you to stop. This add-on connects the Newsletter plugin with Brevo (formerly Sendinblue) so emails go out through its delivery service and not through your server.

Anyone with a blog who lives off their list has a blind spot: the content can be excellent and still not arrive, because delivery depends on who sends the email, not on what it says. That is where this add-on comes in.

Why it works with the transactional API and not the campaign one

Newsletter sends an individual email to each subscriber, because each one carries its own tracking, unsubscribe and profile links. Brevo's campaign API is meant to create and launch a campaign, not to send single messages, so the add-on uses the transactional API.

You can also manage from the plugin the bounces that Brevo detects.

Three situations where it makes sense

Your blog no longer fits your hosting's sending capacity

If every send gets stuck, arrives late or is blocked by your provider, handing delivery to a specialized service removes that bottleneck without changing how you work with Newsletter.

You already have a Brevo account

If you use Brevo for other things, you can use the same account so your list's emails go through it. The volume you can send depends on your account's plan.

You worry about addresses that bounce

A list full of dead addresses damages the sender's reputation. With bounce management, the plugin receives that information from Brevo and you can keep the list cleaner.

Validated sender and v3 API key: the only delicate part of the setup

The configuration is short, but there are two places where it often goes wrong:

  • Sender: you must add and validate it in Brevo, and the same sender must be set in Newsletter's main settings.
  • API key: it must be a v3 key. It is created in Brevo's SMTP and API section and pasted into the add-on settings.

Afterwards, send some tests before mailing your whole list.

Questions before connecting Newsletter to Brevo

Do I need a Brevo account? Yes. Brevo offers a free plan, but the add-on does not replace the account.

Can I use Brevo's campaign API? You don't need to, and it isn't the way: the add-on uses the transactional one because it sends one email per subscriber.

Are bounces managed? Yes, the add-on lets you retrieve and manage them from Brevo.

What happens if the sender doesn't match? Use the same validated sender in Brevo and in Newsletter's settings.

It does nothing without the Newsletter plugin

It is an add-on: it only works on top of Newsletter and is not a mail plugin for all of WordPress. Nor does it replace creating campaigns inside Brevo.
