Oars: an organic food store that sells through the eyes
Anyone selling vegetables, oil or honey online competes with the supermarket on convenience and almost always loses. What they can win on is what the supermarket doesn't show: which farm each product comes from and who grows it. If the site has tiny photos, a messy menu and no story, the buyer goes back to the big chain.
Oars is a WordPress theme designed for organic food and fresh produce stores. It comes with eight home pages, is ready for WooCommerce and includes WPBakery Page Builder and Slider Revolution so you can build your front pages without coding.
From the imported demo to the first front page of your farm
Imagine you run a small farm and want to open a shop. This is how the journey looks with Oars:
- Choose a front page: there are eight home pages. You import the demo with one click and edit something already built instead of starting from a blank page.
- Organize the catalog: the built-in mega menu (XMENU) groups categories such as fruit, preserves or dairy into one dropdown, and the sticky header keeps it within reach while the customer scrolls down the page.
- Tell the origin story: with WPBakery you build sections with video backgrounds or images with a parallax effect. That's where the harvest video or the photo of the farm fits.
- Sell: the theme is ready for WooCommerce, but the shop itself comes from that plugin, which is installed separately. Products, payments and shipping are configured there, not in the theme.
- Answer questions: it supports Contact Form 7 (another separate plugin) and Google Maps, useful to show where the farm is or where orders can be picked up.
On top of that you get 600+ Google Fonts, unlimited colors and sidebars, boxed or wide layout, Font Awesome icons and a child theme included so you can edit code without losing your changes.
Four common questions before choosing Oars
Do I need WooCommerce to sell?
Yes. Oars is ready for it, but without that plugin you will have a storefront with no cart.
Can I run the site in several languages?
The theme is translation ready with po/mo files. WPML compatibility is still listed as being checked, so if your site will be multilingual, test it before launching.
Is it suitable for publishing recipes or farm news?
Yes, it supports standard, gallery, link, quote, video and audio post formats. A video recipe or a harvest gallery fits without extra plugins.
Does it look good on mobile?
It is responsive and Retina ready. Even so, check in the demo how the product page behaves with your own photos.
Subscription boxes and expiry control: things that depend on other plugins
Oars provides the storefront and the visual structure. Features common in food retail, such as weekly boxes, recurring orders, expiry date control or delivery zones, are not something the theme handles by itself: they depend on WooCommerce and the plugins you add. If your business needs them, check first that a compatible extension exists.
And if you sell food, remember that each product page must include the labeling and allergen information required by the rules in your country. The theme gives you the space to write it, but it does not fill it in or guarantee that you comply.
