About OldPaper – Ultimate Magazine & Blog Theme
A magazine front page can't be a chronological list
A blog that publishes daily ends up burying its best articles: the feature that took a week of work sits below three minor posts and the visitor never gets to see it. OldPaper is a magazine and blog theme built on that reality: deciding what is seen first is an editorial task, not a matter of dates.
It is built on Bootstrap, with HTML5 and CSS3, and uses Animate.css to add effects to page loading and scrolling. It is responsive, ready for retina screens and lets you choose between a boxed or a full-width layout.
Three ways to set up OldPaper depending on what you publish
If you publish long reports and analysis
You can turn on the drop cap on the first letter of the article from the options panel, decide whether the featured image, video or music appears full width or inside the content, and show or hide the sidebar on posts. For long reads, those settings matter more than any carousel.
If you are a publication with several writers
It comes with a page dedicated to authors (with a demo) and authors support several roles. You can sort articles and pages, keep the editorial category out of the front page listings and turn on a latest news strip below the footer. Social profiles include Xing and LinkedIn.
If you write reviews and ratings
It includes a review system with scoring (the Taqyeem plugin). Check in the demo whether its scoring format fits what you rate before building an entire section around it.
What you change from the panel, without touching code
Everything is adjusted from an options panel based on Redux, with live customization. This is what is most useful for a newsroom:
- Seven predefined skins and unlimited color schemes, plus a custom color for headings.
- More than 600 Google Webfonts, a logo, a favicon and an icon of your choice for the preloader animation.
- Space for advertising in the header and social network profiles.
- Post formats for image, video, music and quote.
- Shortcodes to display the latest articles with an image or those of a specific category, and to separate blocks.
- Elements such as a posts carousel, alerts, progress bars and drop caps, and the standard WordPress widgets already styled.
- A chess-style page template, with category selection.
- Support for Contact Form 7, more than 300 Font Awesome icons, .mo/.po translation files, RTL support and a child theme included.
Questions before choosing OldPaper
Can I start from a ready-made example? Yes, it comes with a demo XML ready to import, which is useful to see how a front page is organized before adding your own content.
Does it work for a WooCommerce store? It supports WooCommerce, but it is designed for publishing content, not as a store theme.
Can I translate it or use it in a right-to-left language? It includes translation files so you can adapt it to your language, and RTL support.
How do I customize without losing my changes? With the child theme that is already included.
Options and reviews depend on separate plugins
The options panel and the review system work through plugins that come with the theme, so they need to be activated to have everything available. In addition, many of the front page modules are inserted with shortcodes: if you prefer to build everything visually with a page builder, check in the demo how it fits you.
