Worth saying before anything else, because it is where nearly every streaming project sinks: a WordPress site is not for delivering video. It is not a question of the theme, it is a question of infrastructure. Ordinary hosting does not hold up two hundred people watching a film at once, and even if the bandwidth held, it does not do what a video platform does.

What has to be contracted separately
Video delivery. It is done with a specialist service that converts each file to several qualities, serves it from the node nearest the viewer and adjusts the quality by itself according to each person's connection. That is what stops the video stalling. There are several providers of this type, they charge for storage and for traffic, and that cost grows with views: it is the main line in the budget and has to be calculated before starting.
Content protection. If you are going to broadcast licensed material, the rights holder is going to require encryption and download control. That also belongs to the video platform, not to the theme.
Recurring billing. The theme presents the plans; whoever charges each month and whoever restricts access to those who have not paid is a subscriptions plugin and a memberships plugin.
And the content
Broadcasting other people's work without a licence is the fast route to the host closing your account and the payment gateways refusing to work with you. If the project is serious, the catalogue comes from your own work, from agreements with independent producers or from licensed material.
Alternatives in the catalogue
The video sector on WordPress has several families and it is worth knowing which one your project falls into, because the content structure changes completely.
For a film and series catalogue, the most established and most used is DooPlay, with its listing, season and episode structure already solved. Movifox covers the same ground with a different visual approach.
For a portal-style video platform, with channels and subscriptions, StreamVid is the reference. And if the project leans more towards a large catalogue with fast playback, ToroPlay comes from a studio specialising in nothing else.
In all four cases, this page's warning applies equally: the theme is the shop window and video delivery gets contracted separately. Choosing one or another does not change that line in the budget.
