About Paid Member Subscriptions Pro
Charging a recurring fee and deciding who sees what
A membership site is really two problems stuck together: collecting money every month without losing people along the way, and controlling which part of the content each person sees based on what they paid for. Paid Member Subscriptions solves both inside WordPress, without sending users off to an external platform and without your member list living outside your own database.
The key piece is that members are ordinary WordPress users. That means any other plugin that respects the system's roles and capabilities keeps working the way it expects to.
The plans you can build
- Free and paid, with a trial period and a sign-up fee if you need one.
- Instalment subscriptions, with a limited number of billing cycles rather than open-ended.
- Plan upgrades, with optional pro-rating of time already paid for.
- Group memberships for companies, where one account pays and distributes access.
- Several subscriptions at once per user, for anyone selling independent accesses.
- Pausing a subscription and gifting one to somebody else.
Content restriction
You can limit access to pages, posts, custom post types and forums. Also to products and whole sections of the shop if you use WooCommerce, plus member-only discounts.
The feature most missed in other systems is content dripping: releasing lessons or materials according to how long each member has been subscribed, not according to a calendar date. It is what lets somebody joining today follow the same path as someone who joined three months ago.
For downloadable materials there is file-level restriction, so a PDF is not left reachable through its direct URL.
Ways to get paid
Stripe, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA, iDEAL and BLIK; PayPal; Authorize.Net; and manual or bank transfer payments for those who need them. It issues downloadable invoices, supports multiple currencies, and handles tax and EU VAT collection, which is where problems usually show up when selling inside the European Union.
It also generates discount codes with their own conditions.
Managing members
It ships registration, profile editing and an account area for the user, plus a member directory if the project calls for one. Data can be imported and exported as CSV, which matters the day you want to migrate or cross-reference the list with another tool.
Against account sharing it includes blocking simultaneous logins, which is the control that actually stops one subscription being used by five people.
What it integrates with
WooCommerce, bbPress, LearnDash, TutorLMS, Elementor, Divi Builder, Profile Builder, Mailchimp and Brevo. Pairing it with an LMS is the usual setup: the LMS provides the courses and this plugin decides who gets in and charges for it.
Frequently asked questions
Is it any good for selling courses?
Yes, and it is one of its most common uses. It pairs with an LMS such as LearnDash or TutorLMS, which supplies the lessons, while this plugin handles payment and access.
Can I charge in several currencies?
It supports multiple currencies and tax and EU VAT collection, with invoicing.
Are members WordPress users?
Yes. That keeps other plugins that work with roles and capabilities running normally.
How do I stop people sharing an account?
It includes prevention of simultaneous logins, which is the mechanism that stops one subscription being used from several places at once.
