About Penniles – Nonprofit and Charity WordPress Theme
For a small charity that needs a causes website, not a design project
Building an association's website often ends in a cluttered homepage with stock photos, a hidden donate button and nobody who knows how to maintain it. Penniles is a theme for nonprofit and charity organizations that want to start from a structure that is already solved.
It is not the right theme if you need a sober corporate website with no emotional appeal, or if your organization runs recurring subscriptions, members with a private area or a merchandise shop as the core of the business. The design revolves around causes, events and a donation button, not those features.
Penniles splits the website between those who give, those who help and those who want to know more
A charity does not have a single visitor: the donor wants to see where the money goes, the volunteer wants to know how to join, and the journalist or institutional partner wants to know who is behind it. The Penniles demo splits those needs across different pages:
- Two homepages: a main one and one with video.
- About us, team and an individual page for each member.
- Causes, events, services and an individual page for each service.
- Portfolio as a grid, in three columns or in four.
- Testimonials, frequently asked questions, donation, contact and a blog with a left sidebar, right sidebar or grid.
Having a page per service and per team member lets you tell your work with names and details, which is exactly what a donor looks for before deciding.
Causes with amount raised and percentage: they only help if the data is up to date
Each cause in the demo shows a raised figure, a percentage and a donate button. It is a good way to create urgency, but it cuts both ways: a bar stuck for months suggests abandonment. Use it for campaigns with a real deadline and goal, and for permanent causes consider showing only the description and the button.
Check in the demo whether those figures update on their own or have to be edited by hand. If they depend on you, plan to review them every time a major donation comes in.
The Donate Now button needs a payment system behind it
Penniles provides the donation page and the buttons on the homepage and on each cause. That is presentation: do not assume it includes a payment gateway, receipts or donor management. Before launching, decide which plugin or external service you will use to collect payments and check that it works with that page.
The demo comes with placeholder text (Lorem Ipsum, sample testimonials and questions unrelated to a real charity, such as purchase refunds). Everything must be rewritten before publishing, and the sample figures and dates are of no use. If you already know which steps, dates and amounts you will show, setup will be quick; if not, the theme will not do it for you.
Events and blog: what keeps a charity website alive
Events are presented with a time, an address and a date, and the blog is there for news and articles. A causes website whose last post is a year old looks suspicious, so consider whether you will publish regularly. With one or two posts a month and a visible event you already have something credible.
Questions before choosing Penniles
Does it work for an organization that does not work with children?
The demo's texts and tone focus on helping children, water and food, and you will need to adapt them.
Can I collect donations directly with the theme?
What the demo shows is the donation page and the buttons. To collect payments you will need a separate payment system that you have checked fits that page.
Is it ready for mobile?
Check the demo on your phone, especially the portfolio grids and the causes.
Do I need to code to use it?
Changing texts, images and figures is your job.
