About Roogan – Podcast Theme
For anyone who already runs a podcast or vlog and wants a site of their own, not another app
Your episodes already live on Spotify, YouTube or SoundCloud, but there your audience belongs to the platform, not to you. Your website is the only place where you can run your own banner, your own newsletter and the text of each episode. Roogan is built for that: podcasters, vloggers, podcast networks, tech or storytelling blogs, and simple personal blogs too.
It fits less well if you want a generic theme for a company or if you expect the theme to host your audio by itself. Roogan presents and plays the content; if you want to publish your own podcast feed, you will need to rely on a plugin such as Seriously Simple Podcasting, Libsyn Publisher Hub or PowerPress, all of which it supports.
Roogan groups your episodes into shows with their own look
If you have more than one programme, or a podcast with very different seasons, mixing everything into one list confuses listeners. Roogan lets you assign episodes to categories and group them into shows. Each show can have:
- Its own featured image and its own layout among those available.
- Its own sidebar, just like each category.
- An episode format designed for audio or for video, with an adjustable image ratio.
With more than 200 post layout combinations and several header layouts, you can tell one programme from another without touching code.
A player you can use while reading the transcript
Transcripts help people who prefer to read, people looking for a specific phrase and people who want to follow an episode without headphones. Roogan's custom player can be used while reading the transcript, so listeners do not have to pause to check the text. It also works with the native WordPress player, and the custom player can even be used to build a music blog.
It supports audio, video, individual episodes and several formats, and it lets you embed content from Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, SoundCloud, MixCloud, Stitcher, PodBean, Libsyn, Spreaker, Podomatic, Deezer, Vimeo and others.
Ads, newsletter and shop: what Roogan prepares and what it does not
You can place a banner on the homepage, on archives or inside an episode, useful for AdSense or affiliate links. There is a newsletter section, four pagination types (classic, numbered, load more button and infinite scroll), related posts, unlimited and sticky sidebars, and social sharing buttons. If you want to sell merchandise, the theme supports WooCommerce, but you need to install that plugin separately.
Texts can be translated from the options panel and right-to-left languages such as Arabic are supported. Before buying, check in the demo how your specific type of content looks, especially if your podcast is audio only and you do not use large cover images.
Frequently asked questions about Roogan
Does it work if I only publish YouTube video?
Yes. There are layouts designed for video podcasts, for those who use YouTube as their main channel.
Does it host my audio files?
That is not its role. You can embed episodes from external platforms or manage content with a compatible podcasting plugin.
Can I have several programmes on the same site?
Yes, by grouping episodes into shows with their own layout and image.
Does it work well on mobile?
It is responsive: content adapts to desktops, tablets and phones, so people can listen anywhere.
