One of the longest-running WordPress themes
Salient has been publishing updates for more than a decade, and in this market that is a rarity that says a lot. Most bestselling themes from ten years ago are abandoned; their buyers ended up rebuilding the site.
It is a multipurpose theme with a creative slant, aimed at studios, agencies and portfolios, with a WooCommerce shop included.
What it offers

- Seven portfolio styles, with filtering and sorting, its most developed ground.
- Its own effects: mouse-driven parallax, shape dividers, cascading images, fullscreen rows with transitions.
- A shop with instant cart, zoom gallery and the visual builder available on the product page too.
- Typography and icons, with over eight hundred font families and four icon sets.
The important thing before buying: the builder
Salient ships its own version of WPBakery Page Builder, adapted with its own interface. That has one concrete consequence worth understanding:
The layout is stored as shortcodes inside the content, and in this case they are Salient's shortcodes. While the theme is active, everything renders as it should. The day you change theme, those pages are left with codes in square brackets instead of text, and have to be rebuilt by hand.
With a generic WPBakery theme at least the shortcodes belong to the builder and survive if you keep using it. Here the dependency is on the theme. Not a reason to rule it out, because a theme that has been updated for ten years is one of the ones that does not force you to move. But worth buying in the knowledge that it is a long-term decision, not a trial.
And a note on multipurpose themes
A theme that serves every purpose carries the code for every purpose, including what your site will never use. Worth building only what you need, deactivating what you do not touch and measuring the speed of the pages that bring money before calling the project finished.
