A portfolio that ends up as just another grid impresses no one
Anyone showing visual work (photography, design, video, a creative studio) tends to run into the same thing: a theme that loads each project as a brand-new page, with flickers between them, and a gallery that looks like everyone else's. Satelite takes the opposite approach: moving through your projects should feel smooth.
A portfolio visitor decides in a few gestures. If navigation stutters, they leave before seeing the second project. So what matters here is not how many settings the theme has, but how it feels to move from one piece of work to the next.
Ajax transitions and sliders: what Satelite does as you browse
Pages load with Ajax transitions, meaning the content changes without reloading the whole site, and the animation between sections feels continuous. If you prefer classic navigation, they can be turned off.
There are several formats for showcasing projects:
- Fullscreen slider with parallax
- Small and large carousel
- Packery
The showcase, carousel and grid templates let you filter projects by category, handy if you mix, for example, branding, photography and web. It also supports video backgrounds.
Customizing Satelite without touching code
Everything is managed from an options panel with sections for general settings, header, footer, portfolio, blog, styling, typography, contact map and error page. In addition:
- Light and dark color options for background and text.
- More than 600 Google fonts and more than 550 Retina-ready icons.
- A shortcode generator with the theme's own elements (for example, testimonials).
- One-click demo content import, using the included XML files.
- WPML compatibility for multilingual sites, .po/.mo translation files and child theme support.
The demo images are used only as examples and are not included, so you will need to prepare your own projects for the result to look like what you see.
Is Satelite the right theme for your portfolio? Questions and limits
It is a good choice if your priority is to show off visual work with smooth navigation. It is a worse option if you need a store or a booking system: it is a portfolio and blog theme, and it is not presented with e-commerce features.
Do I need additional plugins?
Yes. It works with the theme's own plugins (a functionality plugin and a Gutenberg blocks plugin) that are installed during setup, so it is not a theme that works fully on its own with just the basics.
Can I build the site from the demo data?
Yes, there is a one-click demo import, but it only brings the structure and sample content, not the images.
Does it work for a multilingual site?
It is compatible with WPML, which is a separate plugin you will have to add yourself.
Does it adapt to mobile and Retina screens?
It has a responsive design and is ready for high-density screens. Still, test in the demo how the fullscreen sliders behave on your phone before deciding.
Is it suitable for a blog with many posts?
It includes blog options, but its strength is the portfolio. If your site will be mostly text, a more sober theme may suit you better.
