About Slider Revolution Scroll Video Add-On
When video follows the scroll, the reader sets the pace
A hero video runs by itself: it starts, lasts as long as it lasts and the visitor watches it or leaves. It is a comfortable format, but it leaves out anyone who moves quickly down the page and misses the very moment that took so long to film.
Scroll Video changes who is in charge. The clip advances with the mouse wheel, so the edit of your video is no longer entirely yours: each visitor finishes it at their own reading speed.
That changes which piece is worth using. One continuous shot, such as a product that turns or opens, withstands this handling well. An interview or an advert with dialogue and cuts loses its meaning when progress depends on the wheel.
What the Scroll Video add-on does
- It turns an HTML5 video into a sequence played with the mouse scroll.
- Since Slider Revolution 7.2.0, the sequence is one prepared video instead of a folder of pictures, at about a tenth of the weight.
- It is set up on the slide background: the Layer tab holds the video, the part of the clip in use and a row per slide in a story.
- Pointer Range, since version 7.2.5: a layer takes its Selected look while the pointer moves through a part of the video.
The Design DNA Scroll Video template shows the intended use: a fullscreen hero module with the interactive video paired with scroll-based text animation.
It is worth writing before building. Split the clip into three or four moments and give each one a single sentence.
Weight, version and migrated sites
Check your version. If you are on one earlier than 7.2.0, the sequence is a folder of pictures rather than the prepared video, and the difference in weight is about tenfold.
If you migrated the site. In versions before 7.2.0, a sequence built before a domain or https move never reached the browser. If you come from one of them, review those sequences.
Scroll Video needs the base plugin, your clip and a test on a phone
It does not work on its own. It is an add-on for Slider Revolution, and without the main plugin it does nothing.
It does not create or edit the video. You need the piece already filmed.
It does not guarantee the effect looks the same on a phone. It is designed around the mouse scroll, and on a touch screen the gesture is different. Test the page on a real phone before publishing it.
Requirements and first steps with Scroll Video
You need Slider Revolution installed, and the features described here depend on its version. To begin:
- In the Slider Revolution dashboard, search for the Scroll Video add-on and enable it.
- Choose a short clip with continuous movement and prepare the sentences that will go with it.
- Create a module, assign the video in the Layer tab of the slide background and select the part you want.
- Check the result on desktop and on a real phone.
