When the portfolio looks small, the photo loses
A photographer or videographer often picks a template with tiny grids, and when they upload their best work it ends up reduced to a thumbnail surrounded by sidebars. SOHO – Photography starts from the opposite idea: the fullscreen layout makes the image or video the protagonist and lets the design step aside.
Whoever buys a theme like this lives on a first glance that convinces, because a potential client decides on the home page whether they like your eye. That is why it pays to look at how the work is presented before counting how many extras the panel has.
Fullscreen sliders, galleries and portfolios
The theme combines several ways of showing your work:
- Sliders: fullscreen, fullwidth or simple, with image and video support, and a Ken Burns effect option.
- Backgrounds: image or video (YouTube or Vimeo) as a full-page background.
- Portfolio: grid or masonry, from one to four columns, with Isotope filtering, auto load on scroll and individual pages for each project with no limit on number.
- Galleries: albums, categories, galleries with margins, ribbon style, photo listing, portrait format and video galleries.
Among the pieces useful to a photographer are the password-protected gallery and the before/after module, handy if you retouch or restore images.
How the site is built with SOHO
The theme includes the GT3 page builder with drag and drop, modules and shortcodes for building custom pages, with their own settings in each module. It also comes with custom page templates, a fullscreen or standard blog with sidebars, a fullscreen contact page, its own 404 page and a coming soon page.
For day-to-day work there is an options panel with color management, Google fonts, one-click demo import and translation files (.po and .mo). The design is responsive and retina ready. It integrates with Contact Form 7 and Mailchimp, and PSD files are included.
Before deciding if SOHO is your theme
Keep one thing in mind: the theme does not include the demo images or videos, which belong to their owners. You will have to upload your own material, and your first impression will depend on the quality of your portfolio.
Does it work if I am not a photographer?
It is designed for photography and video. For other visual businesses it may fit, but its design revolves around showing images.
Do I have to install the page builder separately?
No. The GT3 builder is built in and installs automatically with the theme.
Can I protect a gallery for a client?
Yes, there are password-protected galleries.
Can I use it in my language?
It is ready for translation with .po and .mo files. Check in the demo how your texts look before finalizing the design.
Can I sell prints with it?
The theme does not include a store. If you want to sell, you will have to solve it with another plugin.
