About ThemeREX Activator
What it is and what it is for
ThemeREX commercial themes include an activation step that validates the licence against the author's servers. That step is what enables demo importing, automatic updates, and access to the resources the theme downloads from outside.
An activator is the piece that satisfies that requirement, so the theme runs with all its parts available rather than sitting in a limited mode.
What the activation step unlocks
- Importing the demos with one click, which is where the finished site shown in the theme's presentation comes from.
- The plugins bundled with the theme, which are usually installed from the theme's own panel rather than the WordPress repository.
- Updates from the dashboard, without uploading the new version by hand each time.
When you need it
When building a new site with a ThemeREX theme. It is the step that comes after installing the theme and before importing the demo, because the importer needs to be able to download the sample material.
If the site is already built and running, the activator matters less day to day: where it shows is during installation and in later updates.
About the licence
ThemeREX themes are distributed under the GPL licence, which permits use and redistribution. Official support from the author and access to their servers are separate services contracted directly with them, and are not part of what the code licence covers.
