About Thrive Comments

A comment is a raised hand, and it usually goes unanswered

A reader takes the time to write what they think about your article and all they get is a "pending approval" message and, with luck, a reply days later. Someone who comments has shown more interest than someone who leaves an email in a form, and the default WordPress comment system gives them nothing back and does nothing to help you use that interest.

Thrive Comments replaces that system with one that borrows social network and forum mechanics, and adds moderation tools designed for anyone who receives a lot of comments.

Likes, badges and votes: why commenting starts to pay off

  • Likes and up-votes and down-votes: readers see that others value their comment, and those who never write can give an opinion with a click.
  • Badges: commenters unlock achievements as they take part, something an ordinary blog does not have.
  • Featured comments: comments can be featured as a form of validation.
  • Social sharing: a specific comment can be shared, and after commenting a prompt to share the article can be shown.
  • Commenting with a social account: visitors write from their social profile, with no need to register.

You can also define what happens right after someone comments: redirect to a URL, show related posts or display a sharing prompt. For example, send first-time commenters to a welcome page with a gift, and repeat commenters to a share button.

Thrive Comments depending on the blog you run

If you publish with a team

You can assign a comment to the person best suited to answer it, instead of sending them a separate message. Replies nest under the original comment, so threads can be read at a glance. Comments awaiting moderation show on the front end of each post, and you can set up your own notifications so none gets forgotten.

If you want to turn commenters into subscribers

Post-comment actions are your tool: a different redirect depending on whether it is their first comment, related posts to keep them around, or a sharing prompt. The reports show visitor activity over time, who comments the most (your most loyal readers) and which posts generate the most conversation, that is, which topics are worth writing about next.

If you run the blog alone

The moderation dashboard lets you filter by comments on your own posts, by those still waiting for a reply, or by a specific page, and every action has a keyboard shortcut. With automatic keyword linking, you type a preset term in your reply and the plugin creates the link to the associated URL.

Questions before turning on comments with Thrive Comments

Is it useful if my comments are currently closed? It can help: the moderation dashboard is designed for sorting and processing comments quickly.

Do visitors need to register? No: they can comment from their social media accounts.

Are down-votes any use? They let quiet readers express an opinion without writing.

The pop-up after commenting needs Thrive Leads

Redirecting, showing related posts or inviting people to share works with Thrive Comments alone. Opening a lightbox after a comment, for example with a subscription form, requires combining it with Thrive Leads. And remember that this is a comment system: it does not replace a forms or email marketing plugin.
