The default WordPress login is not enough to build a community
If you want people to sign up, log in and have a place of their own on your site, the standard WordPress access falls short. UsersWP brings registration and login to the front end, with forms and pages.
One decision shapes the result: the data you ask for at registration is the asset of your community. Ask too much and people abandon the form. Ask too little and your directory fills up with empty profiles nobody would want to visit. UsersWP lets you fine-tune that balance field by field.
A registration form built with your own fields
The form builder works by drag and drop. You can create as many custom fields as you need and decide for each one whether it appears on the profile page or is only used internally.
The registration form can be placed on any page with a shortcode, which also works for widgets and bespoke pages. There is also a login form, so access does not depend on the default screen.
Profiles with a cover photo and a directory you can sort
Each user has a profile page with an avatar and a cover photo. The content is laid out in two columns: the user's details on one side and the list of their posts and comments on the other. You can also show whichever custom fields you want.
- Members directory: searchable and sortable, in list or grid view, and able to display your custom fields.
- Your own design: if the directory template does not suit you, you can copy the template file into your child theme and modify it.
- For developers: it can be extended with hooks and filters.
Mailchimp, WooCommerce and bbPress come as separate add-ons
UsersWP covers registration, login, profiles and the directory. Anything that connects to other tools is installed as a separate add-on, so it is worth being clear about this before planning your project.
- The plugin already handles: registration and login forms, custom fields, profiles with avatar and cover photo, a members directory and shortcodes.
- With a Mailchimp add-on: letting users subscribe to your newsletter when they register.
- With a WooCommerce add-on: enriching your buyers' profiles with their activity in the store.
- With a bbPress add-on: showing topics, replies, favorites and subscriptions on forum profiles.
- By hand or with a professional: any design change that goes beyond the templates, and placing the pages with shortcodes, which takes a little practice if you have never done it.
Common questions before building your community
Does it work with my page builder?
You can place the forms on any page with shortcodes, so they fit the design you already use. Check in the demo how they look with your theme.
Can I show custom fields in the directory?
Yes, in both the list and the grid view.
Do I need to code?
Not for normal use. Hooks and filters are for those who want to go further.
Can I subscribe users to Mailchimp at registration?
Yes, but with the Mailchimp add-on, not with the base plugin.
