Alternate sorts your portfolio by project type without you building it by hand
Whoever is about to hire you rarely wants to see everything you have done: they want to see what looks like what they need. A portfolio that mixes photography, branding and web in a single grid forces that person to search, and often they give up before finding it.
Alternate solves that with a filterable portfolio. You create your project types, add entries to each type, and the types show up on their own in the filter menu.
Keep in mind what the filter puts on display: if a type has two projects, it shows. Create only the types you can fill with work that truly represents you.
Portfolio on the front page, blog or static page: you choose what visitors see first
Not every creative wants the same thing on arrival. With Alternate you can show the portfolio on the front page or put the blog or a static page in its place, for example an introduction to you and how you work.
The layout is fluid and adapts to desktop, notebook, tablet and mobile, which matters when a good share of the people looking at your work do it from their phone. Projects rely on featured images, so the quality of your photos and screenshots decides the result.
Multi-level menu, custom background and a one-click child theme
Alternate brings the basics for a creative's site and little more:

- Logo and favicon uploaded from the theme itself.

Is a minimal theme enough, or do you need a store or bookings?
Alternate is a simple portfolio theme: filterable projects, blog and pages. The Contact Form 7 styling only gives the form its look; you install the plugin separately. If you are after selling online or managing bookings, check in the demo whether the design works for you and be ready to add plugins.
Can I put the blog on the front page instead of the portfolio?
Yes. The front page can show the portfolio, the blog or a static page.
How do the portfolio filters appear?
They are generated from the project types you create. You do not have to build the filter menu by hand.
Does it look good on mobile?
Yes, the design is responsive and adapts to different screen sizes. Even so, check your own images on mobile before publishing.
Can I customize it without losing my changes?
Yes, the theme creates and activates a child theme with one click, which is the recommended way to modify it.
