About Voxel Toolkit

When the Voxel theme falls short halfway through a project

You build a directory or a booking platform with Voxel and, once listings are live, the requests start that the theme doesn't cover: users want to save their searches, owners want to see how their listing performs, and the admin wants to moderate without opening twenty screens. The usual reaction is to install a different plugin for each need, and the site ends up heavy, with settings scattered everywhere.

A directory platform is won by what happens after publishing

People who build directories tend to think about design and loading listings, but the real business is getting listing owners to log back in and visitors to come back. An advertiser who can't see what their listing brings in stops renewing it. Voxel Toolkit focuses right there: member engagement, metrics for owners and moderation tools for you.

Voxel Toolkit's functions, grouped into four areas

Everything is switched on from a single settings screen and is grouped like this:

  • Engagement: notifications, timeline tools, messaging and reviews. For example, the anonymous timeline lets members post and reply without showing their name on walls and reviews, although the admin always sees who it really is. Push notifications send Voxel alerts to the browser.
  • Analytics: per-listing performance, with card impressions and clicks in search results, page views, action clicks, shares and revenue, segmented by promotion period and listing plan. It includes dashboards for the admin and widgets for owners.
  • Search and filters: saved searches with an alert when new matching posts appear, date and service-area filters, feeds, maps and result layouts. Split view lets you preview a result in a side pane without leaving the page.
  • Admin and workflow: moderation, submissions, admin screens, automation and developer tooling. An MCP server lets AI assistants read and manage post types, fields, taxonomies and listings, with automatic snapshots so changes can be undone.

It also adds Elementor widgets built for Voxel templates and five new field types that appear in the Voxel field picker.

What it needs to work

It is an add-on, not a theme: it only works with the Voxel theme. The widgets are placed with Elementor, so if you build your templates another way you won't get much use out of them. And it doesn't replace Voxel: it extends what you already have.

Questions people ask before installing it

Does having so many functions slow the site down?

Each function is off until you enable it, and disabled ones load no code, scripts or styles. A site using six functions should weigh about the same as one with six separate plugins.

Does it work without the Voxel theme?

No. It requires the Voxel theme.

Where do the widgets and fields appear?

Widgets show up in Elementor, in the Voxel Toolkit category. The new fields appear in the Voxel field picker and can be added to any post type.

Do I have to set up keys or accounts for push notifications?

No: push notifications are enabled without creating accounts or keys.

Turn on only what you will use, function by function

Setup is gradual. Go to the settings screen, switch on one function and review its options: post types, roles, labels and limits. Most work out of the box with sensible defaults. A sensible order: first what visitors see (saved searches, split view), then analytics for owners and, last, admin automation. Test each widget in an Elementor template before publishing it.
