A shop that lives apart from the community
Anyone who builds a community with BuddyPress and adds WooCommerce often ends up with two websites glued together: members chat in their profile and, to see an order or download a file, they jump to an account page that looks like it belongs to another site. That jump breaks the sense of belonging right at the moment of purchase.
In a store with a community, customers come back for the people and the context, not for the catalog. If their purchase history and downloads live where they already spend their time, buying stops being a visit to another site and becomes part of their profile. That is what WooBuddy is for.
WooBuddy puts the WooCommerce account inside the profile
- Customer data: shipping and billing addresses are edited from the member's own profile.
- Cart, history and downloads: the cart, past payments and downloadable files are found in the profile, with a view of each individual purchase.
- Order tracking: customers locate their order with the ID they receive in the confirmation email.
- Synchronization: if someone registers at checkout or changes their address, the plugin keeps WooCommerce and BuddyPress data up to date.
- Optional public activity: reviews and purchases can be posted to the activity stream, and each member decides whether they are shown.
- Tabs your way: you can rename, enable or disable them, and bring content from WooCommerce extensions or other plugins into the profile.
It also lets you enable product support forums and product member groups, so customers can talk to each other and to your brand. It needs no prior setup: you activate it and it starts working.
What changes depending on the type of store you run
Membership site
Members see their purchases, their data and their activity in one place, without going through the classic shop account.
Marketplace or auction site
If several people buy and sell in the same network, having each profile gather their purchasing activity helps the store feel like part of the community.
Artists and digital products
Anyone selling music, art or downloadable files gets a clear access point: customers find their downloads in their profile and can discuss the product in its forum or group.
Questions before installing WooBuddy
Do I have to configure anything?
No: you just activate it. Afterwards you can adjust the profile tabs as you like.
Are everyone's purchases published without asking?
No. Each member chooses whether their reviews and purchases appear in the activity stream.
What happens if I turn off BuddyPress?
The plugin falls back to the regular WooCommerce pages. The same happens with a user who does not want to become a member.
Can customers track their order?
Yes, from their profile, with the order ID they receive by email.
Subscriptions and checkout manager come as separate add-ons
You need WooCommerce and BuddyPress up and running. Subscriptions and advanced checkout management are offered as separate WooBuddy add-ons, so do not expect them in the base plugin.
