About WooCommerce Cart Reports
Knowing what stayed in the cart, not just what sold
A store's sales reports tell you what went well. What they don't tell you is how many people reached the cart, thought it over and left. Without that figure it's easy to blame traffic for low conversion when the problem may be a specific product, a cost that appears late or a step that causes friction.
WooCommerce Cart Reports records your customers' carts and sorts them into three statuses: open, abandoned and converted. That way you stop guessing and start seeing which products go unbought.
From the monthly chart to each cart: how to read WooCommerce Cart Reports
The reports live in a new tab called "Carts", inside WooCommerce, Reports. There you choose a custom date range and see:
- the converted, open and abandoned carts for that period;
- the most abandoned products;
- product abandonment month by month.
To dig into the detail there is a list view. You can filter by cart date, by status or by customer, and open the "Cart details" view, which shows the products that were inside and the time of the last update. Converted carts also have a direct link to "View order".
An example of use: if the same product shows up month after month among the most abandoned, its page, its price or its shipping costs deserve a review. The plugin points you where to look; you find out the why.
Dashboard widget and manual email to whoever left the cart
The WooCommerce dashboard widget gives a quick view of trends: the carts open right now and those abandoned recently. It's handy if you open the dashboard every morning and want a pulse of the store without going into the reports.
On carts linked to a user, the action "Send email to customer" appears. It's an action you perform yourself, cart by cart, when available. It works for a store with few abandoned carts and a personal touch; with hundreds a month it becomes office work.
Reports or automatic recovery: what to decide before choosing Cart Reports
This plugin is for reporting and analysis. It has no automatic email sequences, scheduled reminders or recovery discounts. If you want the store to write on its own to whoever abandoned a cart, you need another tool for that. And if your store has a lot of traffic, try it first on a copy to check that the cart and the dashboard stay responsive.
Where do I see the data?
In WooCommerce, Reports, "Carts" tab, and in the WooCommerce dashboard widget.
Does it send automatic emails to people who abandon the cart?
No. It only offers to send an email by hand from the list view, and only on carts linked to a user.
Can I analyze a specific period?
Yes, the reports accept a custom date range, and the list can also be filtered by status and by customer.
Does it tell me why a cart was abandoned?
No. It tells you which products are abandoned most and when; the cause has to be worked out by reviewing price, shipping or the checkout process.
