About WooCommerce Local Pickup Plus

The order is ready, but the customer shows up at the wrong location

When a store splits its sales across several shops or warehouses, the problem is almost never payment: it is that the customer doesn't know where to collect, arrives when nobody has prepared the order, or turns up at a location that doesn't even carry that product. The local pickup method that comes with WooCommerce works well with a single address, but falls short as soon as there is more than one.

WooCommerce Local Pickup Plus turns pickup into a process with locations, schedules and alerts, so the customer knows where to go and your team knows when to expect them.

Locations, products and costs: what WooCommerce Local Pickup Plus controls

This is the core of the plugin: deciding what can be collected, where and under what conditions.

  • Several pickup locations: the customer picks one at checkout, and that choice appears in their account, in the order emails and in the order manager.
  • Pickup by product or category: you can allow it, require it or forbid it. It is useful for items that are large or hazardous to ship, which you can mark as pickup only.
  • One location per order or one per item: you decide whether the whole cart is collected at the same place or whether each product can go to a different location.
  • Cost or discount for picking up: you can apply a surcharge or a discount to those who choose pickup.
  • Sorting by proximity: with Google Maps geocoding, locations are sorted by distance from the customer.
  • Bulk loading: export and import pickup locations as CSV, handy if you have quite a few.
  • Tax address: you can use the pickup location as the order's tax address.

The limits worth knowing

To limit which products are offered at each location you must first enable pickup per item; without that, the setting is not available. Also, if a product in the cart is not available at a location, that location disappears from the list, so a mixed cart can leave the customer with few options. The plugin needs WooCommerce and works on the checkout flow; it does not replace a warehouse management system. If you sell subscriptions, test it first in a staging environment.

Pickup appointments with hours, holidays and capacity

With appointments enabled, the customer can choose a date (or be required to) and sees the location details and its hours that day.

  • Business hours and holidays, either general or specific to each location.
  • Lead time: how long you need to prepare the order before it can be collected.
  • Window: the maximum number of days in advance a pickup can be scheduled.
  • A limit on simultaneous appointments per time slot, designed for curbside pickup or takeout.

Each location can have its own hours, lead time and window if the defaults don't suit it. You can also add to each location a list of emails that will receive the notifications of orders including items from that place, so the warehouse finds out without anyone forwarding anything.

Common questions about WooCommerce Local Pickup Plus

Is it worth it if I only have one location?

Yes, but there the built-in WooCommerce method already covers much of what you need. It makes more sense if you need appointments, pickup costs or product restrictions.

Can I require pickup for certain products?

Yes, by product or by category: you can require pickup or prevent it so the items are shipped.

Does the customer always see every location?

No: only those that have the products in their cart available, if you use the per-location restriction.

Does it notify the staff at each location?

Yes, through a list of emails per location that is added as recipients of the order notifications.

With two test locations you will see the whole flow

You don't need to load your entire network of locations on day one. Create one or two places, decide whether pickup is per order or per item and place a test order: you will check what the customer sees at checkout, what they receive by email and what your team sees in the order. If you use appointments, also test a holiday and a full time slot. Once the flow convinces you, add the remaining locations with the CSV.
