About WooCommerce Segment.io Integration

Your store data lives in five tools that don't talk to each other

Google Analytics tells one story, email marketing another and the CRM a third. Every new tool usually means pasting another script, touching the theme or asking a developer to hook up the purchase events. And when you switch tools, you start from zero. WooCommerce Segment.io Integration tackles that problem at its root: it records WordPress and WooCommerce activity and sends it to Segment.com, which in turn relays it to the services you use.

The idea behind it: the expensive part of analytics isn't measuring, it's keeping the measurement working when the business changes tools. If events leave once toward Segment.com, changing destinations stops being a technical project on your store.

Which events WooCommerce Segment.io Integration records without touching code

You install the plugin, enter your Segment.com API code and it starts recording. There is no need to modify the theme's JavaScript, CSS, PHP or HTML. Among the events it collects by default:

  • User account: registration form seen, new user registered, login and logout, account viewed, password changed and address updated.
  • Content: posts, pages, archives and searches.
  • Purchase funnel: product viewed, added to or removed from the cart, cart viewed, coupon applied, checkout started, shipping calculated, payment started and purchase completed.
  • Orders: order created, viewed, tracked, re-ordered and cancelled, plus file downloads.
  • Interaction: comments and product reviews.

How each type of store makes use of it

If you run marketing and use several tools

Segment.com acts as an intermediary: your data arrives once and is forwarded to services such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Intercom, Salesforce or Marketo, among many others in its catalog. To switch from one service to another, you do it from Segment.com, without touching the store.

If you are a developer or work with one

Besides the default events, events from other plugins (for example WooCommerce Subscriptions) can be tracked through code, following the manufacturer's documentation. That does require programming.

If you have a small store with a single analytics tool

You probably have one layer too many. This piece earns its keep when there are, or will be, several data destinations; with just one, that tool's own plugin may be enough.

It needs a Segment.com account and WooCommerce

The plugin doesn't analyze anything by itself: it brings no dashboards or reports. It only sends data, so you need a Segment.com account and, to see results, at least one destination service configured there. It is a WooCommerce add-on and doesn't work without the store. Segment.com was formerly called Segment.io and is the same service.

If you collect visitor and customer data and send it to third parties, review your cookie and privacy policy: the plugin doesn't handle consent for you.

Frequently asked questions about WooCommerce Segment.io Integration

Do I have to program anything?

Not for the default events: you install, enter the API code and it starts recording. Programming is only needed for additional events from other plugins.

Is it useful if I already use Google Analytics?

Yes, Google Analytics is among Segment.com's destinations. The advantage appears when you add more tools.

Can I switch analytics services without losing data?

Segment.com stores your analytics data for later use, so switching services is done with a button, with no changes on the website.

Does it work with block checkout and HPOS?

Yes, it is compatible with the cart and checkout blocks and with high performance order storage.

Is it available in Spanish?

Its language is English (UK and US), so the plugin is displayed in English.
