About WooCommerce Smart COD PRO
Cash on delivery, but only where it pays
Cash on delivery sells. It also generates the most refused orders: parcels coming back because nobody was home, or because the customer changed their mind while the courier was on the stairs. You pay for the round trip, and on small orders that eats the whole margin.
WooCommerce Smart COD does not remove cash on delivery, which would be throwing away sales. It turns it into something you can bound: offer it where it works, charge for it where there is risk, and withdraw it where it does not add up.
Where to offer it
Restrictions can be built on almost any condition of the order:
- Location: country, state, city or postcode. That is the first thing you need when certain areas have a refusal rate that spikes.
- Shipping: zone, method or shipping class.
- Cart: specific products, categories, amount, weight or number of units.
- Customer: role, email, phone or username, which lets you block anyone who has already left parcels hanging.
- Stock: based on availability or whether the item is on backorder.
- Coupons used on the order.
When the method is unavailable it shows your own message explaining why, rather than the option simply vanishing and leaving the customer wondering what happened.
Charging for the risk
It lets you add a cash-on-delivery fee, with multiple amount rules under their own conditions. The fee can be shown or hidden on the cart page, applied when retrying a failed order, and waived when the customer chooses local pickup, which is where the risk disappears.
The feature that genuinely cuts refusals
The Pro version adds risk-free cash on delivery with advance payment: the customer pays part up front, fixed or as a percentage, and the rest on receipt. It is the mechanism that most reduces the refusal rate, because somebody who has already put money down rarely turns the parcel away.
