About WordPress RSS Feed Retriever Pro

Showing other people's content without making your site look like an empty storefront

Whoever installs WordPress RSS Feed Retriever Pro is in the curation business: bloggers, niche sites, portals that gather what is published in their field.

The feed is the raw material; what makes the difference is what you put around it: your selection, your commentary, your order. This plugin solves the mechanical part, which is displaying feeds well.

Columns, masonry and icons: what WordPress RSS Feed Retriever Pro displays

Everything is controlled with shortcode attributes, without digging into a complex panel. The most useful ones:

  • Column layout: you set how many you want with the columns attribute, for example three.
  • Masonry: with layout="masonry" the entries are placed in a cascading grid.
  • Thumbnail or first image: the plugin can fetch the item's featured image or the first one it finds, and you set its size.
  • Excerpt: you choose how many words to show, so each entry is a hook and not a whole text.
  • Source and publication date icons: they are enabled with icons="true".
  • Read more link, credits and new window: you can show a "read more" link, credit the source and open links in another tab so your visitor does not leave your page.

It helps to know the limits. Configuration is written in the shortcode, not with a visual drag-and-drop editor. And the plugin can only show what the source feed publishes: if a site offers only headlines or includes no images, there will be no thumbnail or long text to retrieve.

Frequently asked questions before installing it

Can I mix several sources in the same list? Yes, the plugin lets you aggregate several feeds.

Does it limit the number of feeds? There is no cap on feeds you need to watch.

Does it work with the block editor? Yes: you paste the shortcode inside a shortcode block.

Can I put it in the sidebar? Yes, in a text widget, and also anywhere in the theme using PHP code.

Is it useful for social networks? For any source that publishes an RSS feed. If a network or service offers no feed, the plugin has nothing to read from.

Several sources on one page and a cache you decide on

The shortcode includes a cache attribute, with which you define how long what has already been downloaded is reused instead of querying the source on every visit. For feeds that change little, a high value suits you; if you cover breaking news, a lower one.

For a curated page, it works well to combine two or three related sources, limit the elements with the items attribute and leave room for a text of your own above. That way the reader understands why those stories are there.

One shortcode, three places to paste it

The base is the wp_rss_retriever shortcode with the feed address. The rest (items, excerpt, thumbnail, layout, columns, icons, cache) are optional and you add them according to what you want to see.

  • In a page or post: paste it in the content or in a shortcode block.
  • In a text widget: ideal for a sidebar column with the latest posts from one source.
  • In a template: using PHP code, if you want the feed in a fixed area of the theme.

Start with one feed and few attributes, check how it looks on mobile and only then enable columns, masonry and icons.
