WorldNews – Magazine RTL Responsive WordPress

A magazine that wants to sell does not have to build a second site

A publication with loyal readers sooner or later reaches the same question: how to offer them something without setting up another website, with another design and another menu. When the shop lives elsewhere, the reader leaves the place they know and enters a new one right at the moment of paying.

The trust a magazine builds article by article only helps it sell if the shop lives under the same roof. WorldNews, by 7uptheme, is a magazine and blog theme that brings both things together in one installation: more than forty article grids and more than twenty product grids, with WooCommerce among the included plugins.

If your project is never going to sell anything, that half of the theme adds nothing for you, and it is worth comparing it with themes focused only on news.

Magazine front page, articles and navigation

• More than 40 grid styles for articles, with post formats and blog templates.
• Several front page layouts assembled with the drag-and-drop builder.
• Its own elements: Post Box, Post Slider, Blog as list or grid, Banner, Brand, Instagram, Mailchimp and Social.
• Widgets: Banner, List Posts and Slider Posts.
• Custom header and footer: created as WordPress pages and assigned to each page.
• Mega menu, optional sticky menu and several menu styles and colors.
• Sidebar on the left, on the right or none, plus AJAX search and breadcrumbs.

The shop inside the same publication

The selling side relies on WooCommerce and shares the theme with the magazine. These are its pieces:

• More than 20 product grid styles, with grid and list views.
• AJAX shop filter, which can be turned on or off, and a filter widget.
• AJAX mini cart and a notification when adding to the wishlist.
• Product elements in list and tab form, plus trending products.
• Included plugins: YITH WooCommerce Compare and YITH WooCommerce Wishlist.
• Integration with WooCommerce Catalog Mode.

It is compatible with WC Marketplace, WC Vendors and some Dokan plugins, in case the shop will host several vendors. Also with Woo Multi Currency for several currencies, and with WPML, Polylang and Loco Translate for translation, and it supports right-to-left writing.

Monetization, block editor and marketplace: what to review

Media monetization. Its features do not include AMP, a paywall or an ad manager. For advertising it has the Banner element and widget.

Block editor. It is not optimized for Gutenberg. Its own elements are built for Visual Composer, so front pages are assembled there.

Marketplace. Compatibility does not include the plugins: WC Marketplace, WC Vendors and Dokan are installed separately, and the Dokan compatibility covers only some of its plugins.

Installing WorldNews and importing the demo

It works with WordPress 4.9 to 7.0 and WooCommerce 5 to 10. The plugins it asks for are 7up Core, Option Tree, Visual Composer and MailChimp for WordPress Lite. These are the steps:

1. Upload the worldnews.zip file under Appearance, Themes, and activate it.
2. Install and activate the plugins when the theme prompts you.
3. Go to Theme Option, Import Demo Content, and choose Import Now or Import Without Media.
4. Create your header and footer as pages, and assign them.
5. Set up the menus, with Mega Item if you want a mega menu.
6. Replace the sample content and configure the shop in WooCommerce.

Other magazine themes worth a look

If revenue will come from content rather than a shop, JNews brings a paywall, AMP support and Google AdSense formats, which are not among the features of this theme.

Herald is designed for news portals and magazines with several areas, with section blocks for the front page. And if your outlet is in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Urdu, News Newspaper has full RTL support and an Arabic demo.

Articles, builder and demo import in WorldNews

Does it work if I only want to publish articles?

Yes, it is a magazine and blog theme, and WooCommerce is only needed for the shop. Even so, it is worth comparing it with news-focused themes, which may give you more media features.

Which page builder does it use?

Visual Composer, which is included. Its own elements are for that builder.

Can I import the demo without the images?

Yes. The Import Without Media option imports the content without the media files.
