About WP Armour Extended

Form spam buries the messages from real customers

You open your inbox and out of forty form notifications, thirty-nine are links to casinos or absurd offers. The problem is not just the annoyance: with that much noise, you end up taking too long to answer the one message that was an actual customer. And the usual fix, adding a captcha, shifts the problem to the visitor, who abandons the form just when they wanted to contact you or sign up.

WP Armour Extended makes the bots pass the test, not your visitors

WP Armour Extended is a honeypot-style anti-spam plugin: it blocks bot submissions on comments, registrations, forums and forms without the person typing having to do anything. There is no captcha, no questions and no puzzles. The visitor fills in the form as usual and it is the bot that has to get past the filter.

It does not need an elaborate setup: you activate it and it starts protecting your forms, comments and registrations. For a small business with nobody dedicated to reviewing messages, that means less time separating the genuine from the junk.

Submission log and IP blocking to see what they try to sneak in

The plugin can keep a record of what spammers try to submit. That is useful for two reasons: you confirm that spam is being blocked and not real users, and you see what kind of junk your site receives.

In addition, if the same IP keeps insisting with several submissions, you can block it. That way those bots stop using up your hosting bandwidth and resources with repeated attempts.

Works with the most common forms and plugins

It works without settings with most popular forms. Among them:

  • WordPress comments and user registration.
  • Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, WPForms, Ninja Forms, Fluent Forms, Formidable Forms, Everest Forms, Caldera Forms, Sure Forms and WS Form.
  • Elementor Form, Divi, Bricks Builder, Enfold and Jet Form Builder.
  • WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, BuddyPress, BuddyBoss, bbPress, Ultimate Member and S2Member.
  • Mailchimp for WP (MC4WP), MailPoet, Toolset Forms, YITH Easy Login & Register Popup and My Login.

If you use a form that is not on the list, run a test submission before assuming it is protected.

A honeypot does not replace moderation or site security

It is designed against automated bots. What it solves and what you will have to cover another way:

  • Solves: automated spam submissions on comments, registrations, forums and compatible forms.
  • Solves: protection with no captcha or questions for the visitor.
  • Solves: a log of what is attempted and blocking of IPs with repeated submissions.
  • You cover it: a junk message written by hand by a person, which requires manual moderation of comments or registrations.
  • You cover it with another plugin: protection against malware, intrusions or attacks on the login panel, because this is an anti-spam filter for forms, not a firewall or a scanner.
  • You check it: any forms that are not among the compatible ones.

Frequently asked questions about WP Armour Extended

Do I have to configure anything?

It is not necessary. Once activated it starts protecting forms, comments and registrations, with no prior settings.

Will my visitors see a captcha?

No. There is no captcha, no questions and no puzzles: the bots are the ones who have to pass the test.

Can I see what has been blocked?

Yes, the plugin can record the spam submissions that are attempted, so you can check that spam is being blocked and not users.

Does it work for stores and communities?

It is compatible with WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, BuddyPress, BuddyBoss and bbPress, among others. Check in your own case that the form you use most is covered.
