About WP Custom Cursors
A custom cursor that gets noticed without getting in the way
A portfolio site, an agency or a fashion store can have a carefully crafted design and still show an arrow pointer identical to every other page. Changing it by hand with CSS often causes trouble: hover effects that do not respond on links, duplicate cursors with certain sliders, or the original pointer peeking out underneath.
WP Custom Cursors solves that: you choose the cursor, where it appears and how it reacts. Only people browsing with a mouse or trackpad see the cursor, so it is a desktop detail. Use it as the finishing touch on an already defined brand, not as a substitute for good design.
Image, shape or text: what your cursor can be in WP Custom Cursors
The plugin starts from a set of pre-made cursors and lets you create your own. What matters is how they are controlled:
- Three types of cursor: built from your own image, a shape or a text, horizontal or circular.
- Hover cursors: you can add as many as you like so the pointer changes when passing over links or other specific elements.
- Visual settings: size, color, opacity and blend mode.
- Motion effects: the cursor can snap to the element you hover over and react to the speed of the mouse.
- Exclusions: you can leave elements with a given class name without the custom cursor.
- Scope: it is activated on specific pages or sections, so it does not have to affect the whole site.
Three situations where a custom cursor makes sense
Designer or studio with a portfolio
Your site is your showcase and the pointer is the first thing that moves under the visitor's hand. A shape or text cursor (for example, a word that changes over your projects) reinforces a sense of craft without touching the rest of the layout.
Brand with a very visual product
Fashion, photography or interior design live on imagery. A cursor with your logo or a discreet shape, with a different hover cursor over product cards, adds consistency without overloading the page.
Agency delivering sites to clients
Being able to activate the cursor only on the home page or in one section, and hide it on mobile, tablet or in the admin panel, avoids delivering an effect that gets in the client's way when editing.
Questions about multiple pages, mobile and logos
Can I have different cursors on different pages? Yes. They are activated per page or per section, and you can combine several cursors on the same page.
Can I use my logo? Yes, by uploading your own image as the cursor. The images shown in the demos are not included.
Is it visible in the WordPress dashboard? You can hide it there so you work with the normal pointer.
What about inside an iframe? The custom cursor is hidden in iframes, so expect the usual pointer over videos or embedded content.
There is no cursor to show on touch screens
On mobile and tablet there is no pointer to change, and the plugin lets you hide the cursor on small devices. If most of your visits come from phones, only part of your audience will see the effect. Also check in the demo how it behaves with your slider or builder before applying it to the whole site.
