Touching the site's files without leaving WordPress
There are things WordPress will not let you do from its dashboard that come up often: reading an error log, fixing a line in .htaccess, uploading a single file into a specific folder, clearing a cache that got stuck. The usual way out is opening FTP or the hosting panel, and that means finding credentials almost nobody has to hand at that moment.
File Manager Pro puts a file manager inside the dashboard itself. Edit, delete, upload, download, copy and paste files and folders, with no FTP or cPanel.
The editor
It ships a code editor with syntax checking, several visual themes and a full-screen mode. Syntax checking matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between fixing a PHP file and taking the site down over a missing semicolon.
Database
It includes a manager for adding, editing, deleting and updating records and tables, and exporting the database with one click. For a quick lookup or a fast export it saves going into phpMyAdmin.
Permissions, which is where safety is decided
A file manager with full access from the browser is also the dream of anyone who gets into your dashboard. Which is why what matters here is not the features but the controls:
- Per-user permissions, one by one.
- Per-role permissions, with access limited to specific folders.
- Private folders assigned to a user, who cannot see anyone else's.
- Fine-grained control over which operations each person can perform.
- Email alerts to the administrator when somebody uploads, downloads or edits something, with an activity log.
That last one is worth leaving switched on permanently: if something gets touched, you find out the same day.
For site users
It ships separate shortcodes for logged-in users and for visitors, so you can build a download or upload area on the front end, with a configurable size limit.
External storage
The premium tier adds add-ons for Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, GitHub and DigitalOcean.

Does it replace FTP?
For most day-to-day tasks, yes. Editing, uploading, deleting and moving files all happen from the dashboard.
Is it safe to leave installed?
That depends on the configuration. It is worth limiting permissions by role, using private folders, and keeping the email alerts and activity log switched on.
Can I let a client upload files?
Yes, through the front-end shortcodes, with an assigned folder and a size limit.
Is it any good for the database?
It includes a manager for editing records and tables and exporting the database with one click.
