About WP RSS Aggregator - Feed to Post

A site filled with other people's content needs its own judgment

Copying news from other sources by hand eats up your hours, and automating it without control ends up as a blog that looks like a photocopy of others. Feed to Post handles the mechanical part: it takes the RSS feeds you point it to and turns them into posts on your WordPress site, with no pasting required.

What people who build an aggregator often discover too late is that the content isn't theirs. The only thing that sets you apart from any other site reading the same feeds is what you choose, how you present it and what you add to it. The plugin gives you the tools for that; the judgment is yours.

WP RSS Aggregator - Feed to Post: from feed to post, or to your own content type

The workflow is simple and has three parts:

  • Sources: you add as many feeds as you need and decide where the content is imported: as posts or as a custom post type. You can import everything or set your own limits.
  • Rules: you attribute the content to its origin, add or remove media files, and categorize and tag the imported posts.
  • Automatic import: once you're happy with the sources and rules, new content keeps arriving on your blog on its own.

It fits niche news aggregators, content hubs for a community, educational platforms with articles and tutorials, or as a source of material to share in newsletters.

Draft, credit and link to the source: what separates you from a copy

Imported posts can be tweaked while they are still drafts, before they are published. That's where you change titles, add your own opinion and work in the keywords you care about. It's the step that turns repeated content into content with your voice.

You can also automatically add a credit line with a link to the original. You can also make the post title link straight to the source instead of opening on your site, which is useful if you want to send traffic to its creators or you follow a content sharing agreement.

On SEO, be realistic: publishing regularly keeps the site active, but reproducing what others publish without changes won't make you stand out. And on copyright, the plugin makes credits easier, but permission to use other people's material is something you have to sort out with each author.

You need WP RSS Aggregator and hosting that can cope: how to decide if it's worth it

Feed to Post is an extension: it doesn't work on its own, it builds on WP RSS Aggregator. It doesn't impose a cap on imported posts either, but the real limit is set by your hosting and your site. If you plan to import a lot, start with a few sources and see how the site responds.

Are aggregating and curating the same thing?

No. Aggregating means pulling content from many sources according to criteria set in advance. Curating is more selective: you choose or filter what gets published. With Feed to Post you can do either one, or combine them.

Will Google penalize me for duplicate content?

It is designed to be SEO-friendly, but it depends on how you use it. Edit the content while it's a draft, credit the source and don't publish text identical to the originals.

Do I have to credit the source in every post?

It's advisable, and often required by copyright, to do so. The plugin can add the credit line and the link automatically.

Can I build a complete news aggregator with it?

Yes: it pulls content from several sources, you customize it and you publish it. That said, the quality of the result depends on the sources you choose and the rules you set for them.
