About WP Sheet Editor Automations
Management tasks that repeat every week and nobody wants to do by hand
Raising prices on the 1st of every month, exporting orders every Monday, unpublishing content that expires or importing the CSV a supplier sends you: these are small, boring jobs that are easy to forget. Anyone running a store or a content-heavy site knows that mistakes rarely come from the hard work, but from the routine task that gets skipped one day. WP Sheet Editor Automations schedules those tasks so they run on their own.
It is an add-on for the WP Sheet Editor spreadsheet editors. What you do by hand in the sheet (bulk edits, exports, imports, saving changes to cells) is run in the background, once or on a recurring basis.
How WP Sheet Editor Automations fits depending on who uses it
If you run a WooCommerce store
You can schedule price and stock changes, such as periodic increases or decreases, or seasonal pricing prepared months ahead without touching each product. You can also schedule recurring order reports and product exports to CSV.
If you publish a lot of content
It helps you publish or unpublish posts, pages and custom post types on a specific date, rotate content between categories and authors, or bulk edit custom fields and SEO titles and descriptions.
If you manage courses, events or memberships
Scheduled bulk edits and exports cover courses, lessons, events, organizers, venues, membership plans, members, users and customers.
If you receive data from outside
Scheduled imports read a CSV hosted on your server or at an external URL, once or at set intervals. They are useful for creating and updating content periodically from a file someone else maintains.
Three types of task and how often they can repeat
- Bulk edits: with bulk actions, math formulas and replacements. They run on a future date or every X minutes, hours, days, weeks or months.
- CSV exports: one-time or recurring, with an email each time they finish.
- CSV imports: one-time or recurring, from the server or a URL.
You can have several tasks running at once, and they work even if you log out, close the browser or turn off your computer, because they run in the background.
A cheap backup before every bulk edit
A scheduled bulk edit that goes wrong repeats itself, and that is the risk. Before scheduling one, download a CSV with the fields you are about to change. If something fails, you can import only those fields to restore them. Recurring exports also work as a simple backup of the content you care about, with the rows and fields you choose. It does not replace a full site backup.
It needs another WP Sheet Editor plugin and a properly configured cron
- It does not work on its own: it is an add-on. To automate WooCommerce orders you need WP Sheet Editor for WooCommerce Orders in addition to Automations; the same goes for products, users or other content types.
- It only runs in the admin area. It does not work in Universal Frontend Editor spreadsheets.
- It depends on WordPress cron. The best setup is a cron job on the server or in its control panel to trigger it. If your hosting does not allow it, you can use an external service, with lower performance. Without a properly configured cron, tasks do not run.
Frequently asked questions about WP Sheet Editor Automations
Does it overload a modest server?
Tasks run in batches and you define how many rows each one processes and the time between batches. On a tight server, use small batches: it takes longer, but it finishes. On a powerful one, use large batches to finish sooner.
Does it work with WPML or Polylang?
Yes, like the WP Sheet Editor spreadsheets, which work with multilingual plugins such as WPML, WooCommerce Multilingual and Polylang.
What about custom fields and custom post types?
Yes, with fields from plugins such as ACF, Pods or Metabox, and with types created with Custom Post Type UI, Pods or Toolset Types.
Does it affect the theme or the look of the site?
No. It works in the background, so it goes with any theme.
