About WP Statistics - Real-time stats
Seeing the traffic spike while you can still do something about it
You send a newsletter, post on social media or your server starts to slow down, and all you have to understand what is happening are yesterday's reports. By the time you see the spike in visits, it is gone and you cannot react.
This WP Statistics add-on adds a live dashboard: you see who is on your site right now, which pages they browse and where they come from, without reloading anything. It is useful for specific moments (a launch, a campaign, a performance drop), not for steering your strategy. Staring at a counter that goes up and down all day pushes you into nervous decisions, and reliable patterns are read over longer periods.
Four live views inside the same dashboard
- Online users: how many visitors are on your site at any moment and how they move between its pages.
- Sessions in progress: they help you see how visitors engage and where traffic is heading while it happens.
- Live location: where your visitors come from, useful if you adapt content by region.
- Recent activity: a live list of page views and actions, so you can see which content is drawing attention right now.
The dashboard updates continuously without reloading the page and has a dark mode, which is welcome if you leave it open during a long launch.
WP Statistics - Real-time stats runs on top of WP Statistics
It is not a standalone analytics plugin: it is an add-on that relies on WP Statistics, so you need that base plugin installed. If you currently use another analytics tool, this dashboard will not show you what that tool measures.
Nor is it meant to be your reporting system: it focuses on what is happening now. To compare months, study author performance or analyze campaigns you will need the usual WP Statistics analysis views and, where relevant, other add-ons from the same family.
Do you need WP Statistics - Real-time stats or is the daily report enough?
It pays off if your traffic depends on specific moments: email sends, live streams, offers lasting a few hours, press releases or a site that struggles when many people arrive at once. If you publish at a calm pace and check your numbers once a week, the normal report will give you the same without another dashboard to watch. And if you want historical data, comparisons or alerts, this is not what you need.
Do I have to reload the page to see changes?
No. The dashboard updates by itself and continuously.
Can I see what visitors are doing at that moment?
Yes, there is a recent activity log with page views and interactions, plus sessions in progress and location.
Does it work without WP Statistics?
No. It is an add-on and needs the base plugin installed and active.
Does it have a dark mode?
Yes, the real-time dashboard includes a dark mode option.
