About YITH Cost of Goods Premium for WooCommerce

Selling a lot is not the same as making money: margin hides in the costs

Fifty orders come in a day, money keeps moving, and yet at the end of the month the numbers don't add up. It happens in more online shops than people admit: they look at what they bill and ignore what each sale costs, including payment gateway fees, shipping and taxes. YITH Cost of Goods Premium for WooCommerce is built for anyone who wants to see the real profit of each product, not just the revenue.

One detail often comes as a surprise: the product you sell the most is not necessarily the one with the best margin. Until you put cost next to price, you make pricing and advertising decisions blind.

A cost field on every product and variation

  • Base cost per product and per variation: you enter the purchase price and the plugin adds the extra costs you enable.
  • Bulk actions: if you have 100 products with the same cost, you assign it to all of them at once instead of one by one.
  • Which costs are added: you choose whether shipping, payment gateway fees and taxes are included, and the total appears in the reports.
  • Cost import: you can bring costs over from WooCommerce Cost of Goods if you already had them there.
  • Multi-currency products: it is compatible with Aelia Currency Switcher, so the cost is updated for each currency in the shop.

YITH Cost of Goods reports: margin in money and in percentage

The sales dashboard gathers in a single table the quantity sold, sales price, cost per unit and total cost, profit forecast and margin, both in figures and as a percentage. You can filter by date, product, category, tag or custom fields. You also decide when an order counts in the reports: all orders, processing orders or only completed ones.

A second dashboard shows the available stock of each product and the potential profit from selling it. It helps you see which items are worth restocking and which are not. Stock data can be exported to CSV.

What to know before buying

It is an analysis tool: it does not change prices for you or handle the company's accounting. You enter the costs yourself, so the report is only reliable if the purchase price you enter is correct. In addition, integrations with other YITH plugins are not included: to assign costs to point-of-sale orders, to control vendor commissions or to give a cost to a bundle, you need the corresponding plugin active (Point of Sale, Multi Vendor or Product Bundles).

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with variable products?

Yes, each variation has its own cost field.

Do I have to fill in the costs one by one?

No. There is a bulk action to apply the same cost to several products, and you can also import them from WooCommerce Cost of Goods.

Does it calculate shipping costs and payment fees?

Yes, you choose which costs to add to the base cost: shipping, gateway fees and taxes.

Can I get the profit per order?

Costs also appear in the order details, and reports can be filtered by date, product or category to see the result of each period.

Costs first, reports afterwards

Before trusting the numbers, spend some time loading the cost of the whole catalog. Start with bulk actions for groups of products with identical cost, then review the variations, which are the ones most often forgotten. Also decide which additional costs you want to include and whether orders should count from the processing stage or only when completed: it will change the figures you see. If you are unsure about the workflow, try the demo before deciding.
