About YITH Woocommerce Multi Vendor Premium

A marketplace doesn't fill with vendors just because you open it

Setting up a store with multiple vendors sounds like a business that runs itself: they upload products, you collect a commission. The problem is that the hard part isn't the technology, but getting people with a good catalog to want to sell with you, and then keeping order when everyone does things their own way. YITH WooCommerce Multi Vendor Premium turns your WooCommerce store into a marketplace and gives you the tools to control who joins, what they can do and how much you earn from each sale.

Who joins, what they can do and how much you earn

The plugin covers the whole life cycle of a vendor, from sign-up to payout.

  • Custom registration: there is a default form where you can add or remove fields, change their order and mark them as mandatory.
  • Approval: every application stays pending until you approve it manually, or you can enable automatic approval. You can also add vendors yourself from existing or new users.
  • Entry fee: optionally, the approved vendor goes through the checkout and pays a fee before setting up their store.
  • Permissions: limit how many products a vendor can publish, whether they can create coupons, manage reviews and more.
  • Commissions: you set a global rate, choose whether it is calculated on the regular or the sale price, decide who receives the taxes and can set a different rate for specific vendors.

Vendor payouts are not automatic by default

You can pay commissions manually (bank transfer, PayPal). To automate them you need to add a gateway such as PayPal Payouts, Stripe Connect or Account Funds, which are separate add-ons. With one of them, the commission is paid in real time when the order is paid and completed.

The vendor dashboard is the WordPress one unless you add another plugin

Each approved vendor gets access to their own dashboard to set up the store and upload products. If you want to hide the WordPress and WooCommerce menus they shouldn't see, and give them a cleaner panel for products and commissions, you need YITH Frontend Manager for WooCommerce, which it integrates with.

Tools for living with real vendors

Vendors go on vacation, get sick, hire help and sometimes generate complaints. The plugin anticipates this:

  • Vacation: the vendor temporarily closes their shop, shows a notice with the reason and the reopening date, and decides whether purchases can continue in the meantime.
  • Own staff: with the staff module, each vendor creates employees who manage products and orders according to the permissions they are given.
  • Reports: a "Report abuse" link on each product lets users flag problems; the reports are saved in a table for the admin.
  • Announcements: messages on the dashboard of all vendors, specific ones or those who meet certain conditions, such as a sales volume or being featured.

Each vendor store can be shown with three layouts, with settings for colors, logo size, header image and visible details. In addition, an integrated dashboard summarizes paid and pending commissions, earnings, total orders, the top-selling vendors and the products that generate the most commission.

Questions before opening the marketplace

Do I have to manage stock, shipping or returns?

Not as a general rule: each vendor takes care of the whole sales process for their products, including shipping and refunds. Even so, agree on rules with them so customers are not left unattended.

Can I charge a fee to join?

Yes, it is optional. The vendor pays at checkout before setting up their store.

Can I have different commissions per vendor?

Yes. There is a global rate and you can override it for specific vendors.

Do payouts happen on their own?

Only if you install a compatible gateway such as Stripe Connect, PayPal Payouts or Account Funds. Otherwise, you make them by hand.

Start with the rules written down, not with the plugin

Before opening registration, decide three things: what commission percentage you will apply, whether you will approve each vendor manually and how you will pay them. Changing it once vendors are active creates friction. If you want vendors to work in a clean panel, or to get paid automatically, plan for the add-ons that make it possible. With that clear, customize the registration form, adjust permissions and test the full journey with a test vendor: sign-up, product, order and commission.
