About Zapier for AffiliateWP
Your zap writes to the same objects it watches
You build an automation so that, when a referral changes, a spreadsheet updates and the zap itself edits that referral. That edit is also a change to a referral.
In Zapier for AffiliateWP, triggers watch the same object types that actions write to: if a zap does both on the same type, test with sample data whether it ends up firing itself.
Zapier for AffiliateWP is a Pro addon that connects AffiliateWP with Zapier. Any app available in Zapier, over 700 services, can be connected to your affiliate program, both to receive alerts about what happens and to create and modify data from outside.
What it announces, what it modifies and how it connects
- Triggers: they fire when an affiliate, referral, visit or creative is created, updated or deleted, and when a payout is created or deleted.
- Alert control: notifications are enabled per object type: affiliates, referrals, creatives, visits and payouts.
- Actions: they create, edit or update affiliates, referrals, visits, creatives and payouts.
- Private notes: an action can add a private note, visible only to administrators, to an affiliate’s account.
- Authentication: it uses an AffiliateWP API key, which you create in the tools section.
- Connection: when connecting, Zapier shows a window asking to authenticate with AffiliateWP on your site.
Your site data is made available to third-party services through REST API endpoints.
A new affiliate who reaches your mailing list
One possible combination, which you should test with a trial affiliate before activating it: an “affiliate created” trigger that adds the person to an email tool or writes a row in a spreadsheet, and an action that leaves a private note on their AffiliateWP account so the team knows the process ran.
Since the note is added to the affiliate’s account, check whether your zap is also listening to affiliate updates. If so, use only the creation trigger to keep the zap from repeating.
Limitations to keep in mind
- It needs AffiliateWP installed and active on the same site.
- To use API keys with triggers and actions you must install and activate the REST API Extended Pro addon.
- Triggers and actions cover the listed objects: affiliates, referrals, visits, creatives and payouts. Payout triggers announce creation and deletion.
- If a zap writes to the object type it watches, test it before activating it.
First steps with Zapier
- Install and activate Zapier for AffiliateWP and the REST API Extended addon.
- In the AffiliateWP tools section, create your API key.
- In Zapier, create a zap and choose AffiliateWP as the trigger or action app.
- Authenticate your site in the window Zapier shows.
- Enable the notifications for the object types you want and test the zap with sample data.
