About Add To Cart Redirect for WooCommerce
Add To Cart Redirect for WooCommerce: the click that decides whether the customer keeps going
A customer clicks «Add to cart» and the store answers with a notice on the same page. If they already knew what they wanted, they now have to find the cart, review it and move on to payment. Every step in between is a chance to get distracted or to leave.
This plugin changes that moment: after a product is added, it takes the customer to the page you choose. But the decision is not neutral. If you sell a single product or direct purchases, jumping to payment helps. If your customers usually fill the cart with several items, sending them to checkout after the first one can shrink the order size. Decide based on how your audience buys, not on what looks more modern.
Five redirect levels, from the variation to the default behavior
You can set destinations at several levels, and the most specific one wins, in this order of priority:
- Variation of the product
- Product
- Category
- Global, for the whole store
- Default behavior of WooCommerce, if you configure nothing
Each setting has a search box that finds products, pages, posts and public custom content types. You can also type a fully custom URL, for example a page outside your catalog.
What you should be clear about
It is a redirect plugin and nothing more: it does not create cart pop-ups or change the confirmation message. It needs WooCommerce to work. And applying coupons automatically is only possible by combining it with the WooCommerce URL Coupons extension, which is a separate product.
Three concrete uses that make sense
- Skipping the cart page: instead of reloading the page with the product-added notice, the customer goes straight to checkout. It suits quick single-item sales.
- Automatic gift: if you give away a product when someone buys another (shoes and a basketball, for example), a redirect can add the gift to the cart without the customer doing anything.
- Special conditions: if a product has its own terms and conditions, you can send the customer to that page right after adding it, so they read them before continuing to shop.
Questions before activating Add To Cart Redirect
Does it work with variable products?
Yes. Each variation has its own setting, and it carries the most weight in the priority order.
Can I send the customer to a page that is not part of the store?
Yes. You can choose any page, post or public content on your site, or type a custom URL.
What happens with products where I configure nothing?
They behave as they always do in WooCommerce. Only those with their own, category or global rule change.
Does it apply coupons by itself?
No. For that you need WooCommerce URL Coupons together with a well-built redirect.
Is it compatible with high-performance order storage (HPOS)?
Yes, it is listed as compatible.
The variation overrides the product: configure and test in that order
Start with a global rule covering your store's usual case. Then add exceptions by category, product or variation only where you need them. That way you avoid contradictory rules that nobody remembers later.
Test each case the way a customer would: a simple product, a variable one, one from a category with its own rule and another with none. Also check that the destination page makes sense for someone who has not seen the cart, especially if you send them straight to checkout.
