About Admin Panel Tips

A random tip teaches, but it does not warn

You run a network of sites and the same questions come back every week: where to change the logo, how to schedule a post, what a certain setting is for. The guide exists, but it sits on a page people have to go looking for, and whoever has the question is already inside the dashboard.

Admin Panel Tips puts that help where people already work, and in exchange gives up deciding who reads what and when. It shows a randomly chosen tip at the top of every dashboard page. That condition sets its use: it works for teaching little by little, not for communicating anything with a date, because no specific notice has a guaranteed reader on a given day.

If you write the tips with that idea in mind, each visit to the panel leaves a small lesson. If you use it to announce scheduled maintenance, some of your users might not see it in time.

Features for writing and sharing tips

  • Random tips: active ones rotate in random order as the person moves around the dashboard.
  • On every page: they appear at the top of each panel screen.
  • Designed for Multisite: the network admin shares tips with all registered users.
  • Full HTML: each tip accepts HTML, so you can include formatting and links.
  • Simple management: create, edit, save as draft and delete from a list.
  • User control: each person can turn tips on or off in their profile.

What kind of message pays off in a random slot

Since you do not choose the moment, each tip should stand on its own and stay useful on any day. These pieces fit well:

  • Panel tricks: a shortcut or a barely visible setting.
  • Links to your help: one sentence with a link to the full guide.
  • Good practices: reminders for people who publish content.
  • News or promotions without a deadline: messages that still make sense weeks later.

The longer the list, the less often each tip repeats. If you have only three, users will see them over and over.

A single switch for each user

Its features include no tip scheduling, no targeting by role and no dismissal of an individual tip. The control available to the user is general: they see them or they do not.

That has a practical consequence: whoever turns tips off in their profile also stops seeing what you publish afterwards. It is also not wise to use it for critical instructions, because a person may not get that tip at the moment they need it.

Tips are aimed at the WordPress dashboard, so people visiting the public site do not see them as they browse.

Installing on a network or a single site

On Multisite, the route is this:

  1. Install the plugin.
  2. From the network dashboard, go to Plugins and activate it with Network Activate.
  3. Open Settings > Tips.
  4. Click New and write your tip.
  5. Save with Save Changes.

On a regular WordPress install, the screen is in the same place: Settings > Tips. Prepare several tips before spreading the word, so that nobody sees the same message on every page.

If you need more control over the panel

To change the dashboard branding, Branda is a WordPress customization suite from the same vendor. WP Adminify gathers features to decide what each role sees in the panel and how it looks.

You can also look at Ultimate Dashboard Pro and Admin Menu Editor Pro if your goal goes beyond showing tips.
