About Advanced Ads – Sticky Ads
An ad left behind by the scroll is barely seen
Advanced Ads – Sticky Ads is for keeping the ad in view while the visitor scrolls. It is an add-on for Advanced Ads, not a standalone plugin.
Advanced Ads – Sticky Ads: fixed positions, effects and a close button
The add-on adds new placements to Advanced Ads so you can anchor an ad at the top, bottom, left or right of your site. The ad does not move with the scroll. These are its pieces:
- Anchor ads: they always stay visible in the browser window.
- Background colors: bars in the color you choose so the ad stands out.
- Close button: the visitor can close the ad for the time you define.
- Delayed display: the ad appears after the time you set once the page has loaded.
- Effects: show, fade or slide.
- Centering: vertical or horizontal.
What to know beforehand: it needs Advanced Ads installed, because on its own it does nothing. A semi-transparent background or a different close button size requires custom CSS, as there is no setting for it. And fixed ads work best on desktop: on mobile the recommended option is the anchor ads subtype. If you are after pop-ups or layers, that is a different add-on (PopUp and Layer Ads).
Common questions before fixing an ad
Can I use it with AdSense?
Yes, but carefully: the ad must not cover the content permanently, it has to leave navigation elements clear and it must behave well while scrolling. Also avoid mixing horizontal and vertical fixed ads.
Does it work on mobile?
It is compatible with desktop and mobile. On small screens it is best to use anchor ads, which blend better into the browsing experience.
Can I change the close button?
Yes. With custom CSS you adjust its size, and you can also add your own button inside the ad by giving the clickable element a specific class.
Can I make the background semi-transparent?
Yes, with your own CSS on the ad container class and the opacity value you want.
Site branding: fixed sides and a top banner
One combination the add-on allows is so-called site branding: fixed ads to the left and right of the content and a banner at the top. The sides are created with the Sticky Ads placements, and the top banner with a custom position, manual or another Advanced Ads placement. To keep it coherent, design the images so they fit with the side ads, and fine-tune when they appear with display or visitor conditions.

With Advanced Ads and the add-on active, the work consists of choosing one of the new placements for the ad and adjusting its parameters: position, background, delay, effect and close button. Before publishing, check the page on desktop and mobile and make sure the ad does not cover menus or important buttons.
