About Advanced Importer Addon for MEC

Your events are on Facebook, Meetup or Eventbrite and your calendar is still empty

Copying events by hand from one platform to another is the job that piles up the most on an events website: every new event or date change has to be repeated in the calendar, and the day someone forgets, the site shows outdated information. Advanced Importer Addon for MEC is for people who run a calendar with Modern Events Calendar and receive events from other platforms.

Organizers publish where it is most convenient for them, not where you want them to. A useful calendar collects events where they already are, instead of asking each organizer to write the same thing again.

Advanced Importer Addon for MEC: multiple accounts and filters before importing

You connect Facebook, Google, Meetup, Eventbrite and other platforms by authenticating your account with a few clicks, and you schedule the import so it repeats without you having to launch it. What shapes the result the most is this:

  • Multiple accounts per platform: you can connect more than one account of each service, useful if events are spread across different profiles.
  • Scheduled import: events come in periodically, with no manual task.
  • Status of imported events: you choose what type of events to bring in.
  • Destination category: you define which MEC category they land in.
  • Start and end dates: you set the period in which importing is possible.

Those filters matter more than they seem: importing without criteria fills the calendar with events that do not fit your site.

From an ics or CSV file to another WordPress site with MEC

If the organizer does not use any of those platforms, you can import ics and csv files from a URL or from an external file. You can also transfer events from one site with MEC to another, which is handy if you manage two sites or change installations.

The third-party plugins section includes four more plugins for importing.

So you are not working blind, the plugin shows the list of all importable events with their start and end times. Every import is saved in a history, and you can follow the process in a log with its status, so if something fails you can see at which point.

Is Advanced Importer Addon for MEC worth it? It depends on where your organizers publish

It is an add-on, not a calendar: it needs Modern Events Calendar (Lite or Pro) installed, and the process is started from the WordPress site where MEC is installed. It does not create events on its own or replace MEC. If you write your events directly in the calendar, you do not need it. If you depend on external platforms, that is where it saves the most.

Can I import from several Facebook or Eventbrite accounts?

Yes, you can connect several accounts for each platform.

Does it work for bringing in events from a site that is not on those platforms?

If the site offers an ics or csv file reachable from a URL, yes. You can also upload a file.

Does it work without Modern Events Calendar?

No. It is an MEC add-on and needs MEC to be installed.

Does it prevent duplicate events?

The plugin does not advertise that. Check in the demo what happens when you repeat an import before scheduling it.
