About AffiliateWP Recurring Referrals
If your affiliates bring in subscribers and only get paid on the first payment, this addon is for you
An affiliate program built on memberships or subscriptions has a basic problem: the affiliate brings in someone who stays twelve months and gets paid for a single payment. For the affiliate, the value of their work lies in the customer staying, and if only the signup is rewarded, their incentive runs out on day one. AffiliateWP Recurring Referrals is a Pro addon that fixes this: it records a commission every time a subscription payment is renewed on a subscription referred by an affiliate.
It fits if you sell subscriptions, memberships or periodic fees and already use AffiliateWP. It doesn't fit if you sell one-time products, because there are no renewals to pay commission on. It doesn't work on its own either: it is an add-on for AffiliateWP and needs one of the compatible subscription platforms.
Which subscription systems AffiliateWP Recurring Referrals works with
Compatibility is the first thing to check before you commit:
- WooCommerce together with the WooCommerce Subscriptions addon (requires version 2.0 or higher)
- Easy Digital Downloads with the Recurring Payments extension
- Restrict Content Pro
- Paid Memberships Pro

- Gravity Forms
- Stripe through WP Simple Pay

- PayPal Buttons
If your system isn't on the list, the addon won't record renewals. And with WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads the store alone isn't enough: you also need the subscription plugin mentioned.
How the commission on renewals is set up
Once installed, a new Recurring Referrals tab appears in the AffiliateWP settings. There you tick the Enable Recurring Referrals box and, if you want, set a recurring rate and its type. If you don't set one, the affiliate's existing referral rate is applied.
Capping what you pay on each subscription
A commission that never ends is an open-ended commitment. That's why the addon includes the Enable Recurring Referral Limits option, where you set a numeric value that limits how many recurring referrals are created for renewal payments.
If you also use the Pro addon Tiered Affiliate Rates, another box appears, Enable Tiered Rates, to apply tiered rates to recurring payments too.
What happens with each renewal
Once enabled, recording is automatic: when a renewal is charged on a subscription referred by an active affiliate, the referral is created without you having to do anything. Keep in mind that the addon only records commissions.
Nor is it an addon for starting an affiliate program from scratch: it depends on AffiliateWP being installed and on the affiliate still being active at the time of each renewal.

Does it work without AffiliateWP?
No. It is a Pro addon that adds to AffiliateWP and puts its tab in that plugin's settings.
Can I pay a different rate on renewals?
Yes. You can set a recurring rate and its type; if you don't, it uses the affiliate's referral rate.
Can I limit how many renewals earn commission?
Yes, with the recurring referral limits option, where you enter a numeric value.
Is it useful for a one-time product store?
It makes no sense there: it only records commissions on subscription payments.
Is commission paid if the affiliate is no longer active?
Referrals are recorded when the renewal belongs to a subscription referred by an active affiliate.
