About AutomateWoo - Subscriptions Add-on

Someone who cancels by accident still counts as a cancellation

A subscription rarely dies because the customer got bored. Often it dies because the card expired, the payment failed and nobody warned them in time. If you sell by subscription, part of your churn is involuntary: people who would have kept paying if someone had written to them at the right moment. AutomateWoo - Subscriptions Add-on takes care of that moment.

What AutomateWoo - Subscriptions Add-on does with your subscription events

The add-on lets you trigger actions based on what happens in a WooCommerce subscription. These are the events it works with:

  • Status changes
  • Failed payments
  • Renewal reminders

It runs inside the AutomateWoo workflow system, with its triggers, actions and filters. AutomateWoo also allows SMS with Twilio for its triggers.

What it needs and what it is not

It is an add-on, not a standalone plugin. It is designed for stores that already sell subscriptions with WooCommerce Subscriptions and use AutomateWoo as their automation base. Without subscriptions in your store it has nothing to do. Nor is it a payment gateway, and it does not charge again for you: it notifies and acts, but the charge stays in the hands of your payment system.

Workflows that make sense in a subscription store

  • A message to the customer when a payment fails, clearly asking them to check their payment method.
  • A reminder before each renewal, so the charge does not come as a surprise.
  • An internal alert to your team when a subscription changes to a status that needs attention.
  • A notice before the saved card expires. AutomateWoo includes card expiry notifications that, in subscription stores, can reduce failed payments and cancellations.

Normally each workflow should be short and have a single goal. A failed payment message that also tries to sell another product confuses the customer just when you need them to do one thing.

Questions from people about to automate their renewals

Does it work without WooCommerce Subscriptions?

It makes no sense without it: the events it uses (statuses, payment failures, renewals) belong to WooCommerce subscriptions.

Can I use it if I only sell one-off products?

It is not what you are looking for. For abandoned carts, reviews or personalized coupons, the AutomateWoo base already brings its own tools.

Can it send SMS?

AutomateWoo offers SMS notifications with Twilio integration for its triggers. Check in the demo whether the one you need is among those available.

Does it guarantee fewer cancellations?

No. It reduces cancellations caused by oversight, but it does not change the reason of someone who leaves because the product no longer interests them.

Build the failed payment workflow first and leave the rest for later

It is where the most money is lost without anyone noticing, and it is a simple workflow: one trigger, one message and a clear criterion for who receives it. Test it with your own customer account before activating it for everyone, check the text on mobile and make sure the link takes the customer to where they can update their payment. Once that works, add the renewal reminder and, last, the internal alerts.
