About Automatic CSS WordPress Plugin
When every page you build needs its own mobile tweaks
Adjusting text sizes, margins and columns at every breakpoint, page after page, is the invisible work that eats the hours of anyone building with a page builder. Worst of all, the client never sees it: they only notice that the site "looks good", while you have repeated the same decisions twenty times. Automatic.css (ACSS) takes the opposite approach: decide colors, typography and spacing once, and let the rest of the site inherit those decisions.
If you work as a freelancer or at an agency and deliver many sites, your business is not designing, it is repeating with consistency. A system that sets the rules at the start saves you from fixing things at the end.
Colors, typography and spacing that Automatic.css calculates by itself
Everything starts from a dashboard where you define the basics. From there the framework generates the rest:
Colors: you define your brand colors and shade and transparency variants are generated, with classes and variables to use them on backgrounds, text and other elements. You can also fine-tune specific shades.
Fluid typography: you set the base size and a scale, and headings and text adapt to each screen without defining sizes per breakpoint. If a particular size does not suit you, you set your own minimum and maximum values.
Spacing: margins, padding and gaps follow mathematical scales, so the visual rhythm is constant across the whole site.
Grids: classes and variables for flexbox and grid, with columns that adjust themselves and a system called Flex-Grid for children of different sizes.
Since everything relies on variables, you can create your own components (a card, a button) with those same variables and change the look of the whole site by touching a single place. It works with class organization methodologies such as BEM.
Small fixes that prevent the usual headaches
Beyond the design system, ACSS includes utilities built for problems anyone who has built a layout knows well:
Automatic offsets: for overlay headers, sticky headers, sticky elements and anchor links that end up hidden.
String expansion: you type a variable or a sum and it becomes var() or calc() without you typing it.
REM conversion: you type the pixel value followed by ctr and it turns into rem.
Smart content spacing: consistent separation between headings, paragraphs, buttons, lists and links.
Clickable parent: one class to make a whole card clickable from the heading link, useful for accessibility.
Focus styles: outline or shadow, customizable per element or group.
Text balancing: avoids the lone word on the last line of headings and short paragraphs.
Advanced users also get SCSS mixins. And from the builder itself, a right-click contextual menu shows the available classes and variables with a preview, so there is nothing to memorize.
Is Automatic.css right for the way you work?
It is a utility framework, not a template or a theme: it does not hand you a finished design. Nor does it replace your page builder, it works inside it. And it requires a change of habit: building with classes and variables instead of adjusting each widget by hand. If you prefer tweaking element by element and do not plan to reuse anything, you will not get much out of it. Check in the demo and the documentation that your specific builder is supported.
Do I have to deal with breakpoints?
Not for the normal workflow: typography, spacing and grids adapt to screen size. If you want full control at each breakpoint, there are traditional grid classes.
Do I need to know CSS?
To get started, the dashboard and the classes are enough. Knowing CSS lets you get more out of it with your own variables and components.
Can it change the design of a finished site?
Yes, as far as it was built with its classes and variables: changing colors or scales in the dashboard is reflected across the whole site.
Does it include a design kit?
Not inside the plugin itself. Frames, a component and wireframing system, is a separate product that integrates with it.
