About BARN2 WooCommerce Product Filters

When filtering ends on a page with no products

A shopper who lands on a store with hundreds of items doesn't browse: they discard. If they pick a size and color and end up on a message saying there are no products, they conclude you don't have what they want, even if you have it in another combination.

That is the real problem with filters in WooCommerce: offering them isn't enough, you must offer only options that lead to some result. BARN2 WooCommerce Product Filters shows only the valid options based on the products on the current page, with no empty filters, and updates results via AJAX.

BARN2 WooCommerce Product Filters: eleven filter types and seven styles

You can filter by almost any product data:

  • Categories, tags, attributes and custom taxonomies.
  • Custom fields, price and ratings.
  • Products in stock or on sale.
  • A keyword search box and a sort dropdown (popularity, rating, newness or price).

Each piece of data can be shown as a dropdown, checkboxes, radio buttons, text labels, images, color swatches or a range slider. On visual filters you choose whether each option carries a label.

Attributes that adapt to each page

You can pick a specific attribute or let the plugin show those of the products on the page the customer is viewing. It helps if each category in your store uses different attributes.

Logic and behavior

You decide whether selections combine with AND or OR, whether results change instantly or after clicking a button, and whether each option shows how many products it has. Active filters appear at the top and the customer can remove them one by one or start over.

It needs well-organized data

It only filters what exists in your products: if you haven't created attributes or categories, there is nothing to filter. And combinations with other Barn2 plugins (Product Table, Restaurant Ordering, Protected Categories, Private Store, Wholesale Pro) require having those plugins separately.

A slide-out panel on mobile and three places to put your filters

The filters adapt to any screen size. On mobile they can stay hidden in a side panel that opens with a button, and you can choose different settings for desktop and mobile. A filter group can go above the products in the shop and categories, in a sidebar widget or on any page with the included shortcode. Each group can be displayed vertically or horizontally, inside dropdowns above the list.

By default the colors follow your theme and you can customize them. It works with Elementor, Divi Builder, Avada Fusion Builder, Bricks and the Gutenberg editor, and with WPML, Weglot and TranslatePress.

Common questions before choosing a filter plugin

Does it handle a large catalog?

It is designed for an unlimited number of products and indexes filter data in the background to respond quickly.

Can I show different filters in each area?

Yes. Filters are organized into groups and you place each group wherever you want.

Does it respect hidden products?

With Protected Categories it respects product visibility. With Private Store, filters stay hidden for anyone without access. With Wholesale Pro, each user sees only the filters for the products they can access.

Does it make sense in a small store?

If you sell few products without variations, you probably don't need it. It gains value when customers compare by size, color, brand or price.

The setup wizard and recommended filters save you from starting from scratch

At the start, a wizard asks for the main settings and the plugin comes with a set of recommended filters that you can edit or replace with your own. A good plan: create one group for the shop page, check how it looks with your real attributes and test the slide-out panel on a phone before adding more groups.
