About Directorist Mark as Sold

When the ad is still live but the item is gone

In a directory of second-hand goods, cars or properties, the problem shows up late: the seller closes the deal by phone, forgets the listing and messages keep arriving from people who think the item is still free. The seller loses time, the buyer loses time and the directory ends up looking abandoned.

Directorist Mark as Sold is a Directorist extension that lets the listing author state the status of their item, so visitors see it before they write.

What a classifieds directory rarely controls: the real status of the item

Whoever runs this kind of directory doesn't sell the items, only displays them. That means relying on each author to keep their ad up to date. This extension doesn't force anyone.

Sold, negotiating and the badge text: how Directorist Mark as Sold works

  • Sold badge: the author marks the item as sold from their dashboard and the badge appears on the listing.
  • Negotiating status: it can be activated by hand from the dashboard or automatically when someone submits the listing's contact form. That way the next visitor knows a conversation is under way.
  • Customizable text: you can change the badge text and give it whatever name you prefer, for example to fit the language of your sector.
  • Where it appears: only on the author profile page, only on the dashboard page, or on the author profile together with the all-listings page.

What to be clear about before installing it

It is an add-on: it needs the Directorist plugin and doesn't work on its own. And since the automatic switch to negotiating is triggered when the form is submitted, a simple curious message would also set that mark, so decide whether that suits you or you prefer to handle it manually.

Frequently asked questions

Who can mark an item as sold?

The listing owner, from their user dashboard.

Can the negotiating badge be set without touching anything?

Yes: it is activated automatically when the contact form is submitted, or manually from the dashboard.

Can I change the word "Sold"?

Yes, the badge text is editable.

Is it useful for directories that don't sell objects, such as restaurants?

It makes most sense where each listing is a unique item that can be sold, such as classifieds or properties. In a business directory with permanent services it adds nothing.

Getting started means deciding where the badge shows

Before publishing, choose in the settings whether the badge will appear on the author profile, on the dashboard or also on the general listings page, and check in your demo how it looks on the single listing and in the listing grid. Then tell your authors that the status change is made from their dashboard: the extension only works if they use it.
