About Divi Nitro
You do not see the site your visitor sees
You enable the optimization, open your site logged in as an administrator and notice little change. You conclude it did nothing. Meanwhile, someone arriving for the first time from a search engine sees something else: a page served already prepared.
The page cache works for the anonymous visitor, not for you, which is why your site's speed is measured logged out.
Divi Nitro is a performance plugin built for sites made with Divi. Its page cache delivers ready-made HTML to visitors who are not logged in, and on top of that it adds smart image loading, JavaScript delay, deferred video, minification and database cleanup.
Four main blocks and the supporting tools
- Page cache: Smart or Full mode. Smart understands Divi Theme Builder layouts and keeps dynamic areas live, such as the WooCommerce mini cart. It supports cache times per page type, automatic warming, a cached pages dashboard and, optionally, Redis, Cloudflare or Nginx.
- Smart image loading: keeps the likely main image of the first screen ready, with smart lazy loading, classic deferred loading or off, and settings per image, gallery and blurb module.
- Delay JavaScript: holds eligible scripts until the visitor interacts or a timeout you set passes. Cart, checkout and account skip it on their own, and you can add exclusions by script name or URL keyword.
- Deferred video: replaces the initial YouTube or Vimeo player with a lightweight preview; the video loads when play is pressed. It uses your own image or the video thumbnail.
- Tools: JS and CSS minification, asynchronous CSS, lazy rendering of far-below sections, font preloading, speculative loading of likely pages, database cleanup and browser caching rules.
Three presets and the one to test first
Nitro ships with three presets. Applying one keeps your minification queues, your exclusions and your video preferences.
- Safe: smart image loading, browser caching and font display swap. The page cache stays off.
- Balanced: adds the Smart page cache, Delay JavaScript, asynchronous CSS and prefetching.
- Aggressive: adds lazy rendering, eager prerendering and more cleanup and asset removal. It is best tested on a staging site first.
A reasonable order, which you should check on your site, is to start with the safe preset, open the key pages logged out and move up a preset only if forms, filters and menus keep working.
Dependencies and optional pieces
Nitro works with the Divi theme. Redis, Cloudflare and Nginx are optional and serve to store or purge the cache. Speculative loading needs a recent version of WordPress. The per-page removal tool lets you drop unneeded JS and CSS on specific pages, including from the Divi page settings.
If something fails after enabling an optimization, a single troubleshooting switch turns off Nitro's optimizations, and the settings can be exported and imported.
First steps with Divi Nitro
- Install the plugin with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Apply the safe preset and check the site logged out.
- Move to the balanced preset and review cart, checkout, forms and filters.
- Add script exclusions if any feature is delayed too much.
- Review the cached pages dashboard.
Performance optimizers to compare
If your site is not built with Divi, look at WP Rocket or FlyingPress. To remove scripts and styles you do not use page by page, check Perfmatters.
