About Perfmatters – Lightweight WordPress Performance Plugin
Every plugin loads its scripts on every page, whether you need them or not
You install a contact form, a slider and a maps plugin, and suddenly a simple blog post downloads scripts and styles from all three even though it uses none of them. Nobody decided that: it is the default behavior. The result is extra HTTP requests, heavy pages and a PageSpeed score that does not match how light the site looks.
Perfmatters is a performance plugin that targets exactly that: it reduces requests, disables plugins and scripts where they are not needed, strips out surplus code and optimizes the database. It is not a caching plugin: it is meant to work alongside the one you already use.
Perfmatters on a real site: from measuring to the final test
Picture a services website with a blog, a form only on the contact page and a map only on the location page.
Step 1: measure before touching anything
Run PageSpeed Insights on the homepage, on a post and on the contact page, and write down the number of requests. Without that baseline you will not know whether a change helped or not.
Step 2: turn on the basic toggles
The dashboard is minimal: one-click toggles and no clutter in the admin menu. Here you remove code and cut requests. This is the part that does not require programming knowledge.
Step 3: disable scripts where they are not needed
You can disable scripts post by post or page by page. The form loads only on Contact and the map only on Location. The limit is that you need to know which script belongs to which plugin; if you switch off one that was actually needed, something will stop working, so check the page after every change.
Step 4: delay JavaScript, remove unused CSS and lazy load images
Perfmatters lets you delay JavaScript loading, remove unused CSS, lazy load images and videos, and host Google Analytics locally. These settings can change how a page looks or behaves (menus, sliders, anything that depends on JavaScript), so turn them on one at a time and check on mobile too.
Step 5: measure again
Compare with your baseline from step 1. If the improvement is clear, keep it; if something broke, turn off the last setting and move on to the next one.
Common questions before installing it
Does it replace my caching plugin?
No. It is designed to work alongside a caching plugin, not in its place. If you do not have one, you will need to add it separately.
Do I need to know how to code?
Not for the general toggles. To disable scripts per page it helps to know how to identify what each plugin loads, and to always test afterwards.
Does it add weight to my site?
Its code is lightweight and it adds no JavaScript of its own on the public side of your site.
Does it work with any theme and plugin?
It is developed and tested to work with themes and plugins in general. Even so, JavaScript and CSS settings depend on each site: try them on a test copy if the site is important.
If the slowness comes from elsewhere, toggles are not enough
Perfmatters cleans up what is surplus, but it does not change the server your site lives on and it is not a cache. If your problem is an overloaded hosting plan, start there; if it is a pile of plugins and scripts loading everywhere, this is a well-focused tool.
