About EDD Product Catalog Feed by PixelYourSite
A monthly plan is not an annual plan, even if it adds up to twelve months
You sell a plugin with a subscription billed every month for a year. In your store, the customer pays the same as they would for an annual plan. When you prepare the catalog for Google Shopping, that subscription disappears from the file.
The PixelYourSite feed for Easy Digital Downloads only includes prepaid subscriptions of 12 months or more, in multiples of 12; a plan billed monthly is left out even if the total adds up to a year.
The plugin generates a catalog feed for Google Merchant Center from your Easy Digital Downloads products. Each price option of a variable-price product gets its own entry, with its own identifier and URL. The feed regenerates automatically daily or weekly, and you can also regenerate it by hand from the admin.
What it writes to the feed and how it is filtered
- One entry per price option: each tier of a variable-price product has its own identifier and URL.
- Subscription titles: it appends the duration and the billing label, for example “1 Year Subscription”.
- Google category: you choose it once in a searchable tree and it applies to all products. For software subscriptions, the “Software > Computer Software” category.
- Identifier: a single switch sets identifier_exists to “no” on every entry, which suits products without a GTIN, like most software.
- Shipping: it adds a shipping block with a cost of 0.00 to each entry.
- Source of subscriptions: EDD Recurring and EDD Software Licensing.
- Feed exclusions: ebooks, PDFs, monthly or quarterly subscriptions, online courses, memberships and zero-price products.
You can filter by EDD category, tag, download type, license status and price range. Only products that meet the filter reach the file. In addition, each product has a checkbox on its edit screen to remove it from the feed on the next generation.
After each generation, a report lists the included and skipped products, and gives the reason for each omission: missing image, subscription too short or manual exclusion.
A store of annual licenses on Google Shopping
One possible combination, which you should test with a trial generation before sending the feed to Google: a store with an annual license plugin in three price tiers, each with its own feed entry, the software category applied and the identifier marked as nonexistent.
The landing pages have their own conditions: they must show the full annual price together with the renewal and cancellation terms, and the page price must match the feed price. Free trials are accepted only if the full price is clearly visible. Review your pages before sending the feed.
Limitations of the feed
- It works with Easy Digital Downloads; for WooCommerce there is another plugin from the same vendor.
- Subscriptions lasting less than 12 months, or not in increments of 12 months, are discarded.
- Zero-price products are left out of Google Shopping feeds.
First steps with the feed
- Install the plugin by uploading the file from Plugins > Add New and activate it.
- Choose the Google category that will apply to all products.
- Turn on the identifier_exists switch if your products have no GTIN.
- Adjust the filters and the regeneration frequency, daily or weekly.
- Generate the feed, open the report and check why each product was skipped.
