About Elementor Shortcode Designer for MEC

If your events page should look like your site and not like a plugin

Something odd happens with an events calendar: the calendar works, but the page that displays it follows the order the plugin chose, not the one your audience needs. And someone looking for a specific date decides at a glance: if the search bar is buried under the list, they leave without looking. Elementor Shortcode Designer for MEC exists so that you decide that order.

It suits you if you already work with Modern Events Calendar and Elementor, and you want each events list to have its own design instead of repeating the usual one. It is typical for organizers with several different pages (one for concerts, another for workshops, another for conferences) who don't want the same template on all of them.

It is not for you if:

  • You don't have MEC: it is an addon and needs MEC Lite or Pro installed, it doesn't work on its own.
  • You don't use Elementor: the design is built with its widgets.
  • The standard MEC shortcodes as they come are enough for you.

Moving every piece of the shortcode with Elementor

The core idea is simple: you create your own shortcode and lay it out with Elementor, dragging widgets until you get the view you want. Then you place it on whichever page you prefer. You can change the position of each element in the shortcode, so the list, the search bar or the map appear in the order that makes sense for your visitors.

All the essential shortcode settings are gathered on a single page, so there is no jumping between screens to configure a view. And it is handled like the rest of the MEC shortcodes.

Map, search and filters: what visitors see before the list

This is what matters most on an events site, because it is where people find or don't find what they are looking for:

  • Map above the shortcode: you can turn it on or off. Useful when location matters, for example if your events are spread across several venues.
  • Search bar: it works like the one in other MEC shortcodes and includes all of the plugin's search fields.
  • Filter options: they limit which events are shown, so each page displays only what belongs there.
  • Number of events: you control how many appear, so the page doesn't turn into a scroll.

A practical tip: if your schedule has few events, a large map and a full search may be overkill. Remove whatever adds nothing and let the list breathe.

Elementor Shortcode Designer for MEC: simple view or modal window

The display module offers two ways to show an event: simple and modal. In the modal, the event opens in a popup window within the same shortcode page.

It is a good option when people compare several events in a row.

Questions before using Elementor Shortcode Designer for MEC

Does it work without Modern Events Calendar?

No. It needs MEC, either the Lite or the Pro version. On its own it neither creates nor manages events, it only designs how they are displayed.

Do I need to know how to code?

The design is done with Elementor widgets and the shortcode settings are gathered on one page.

Can I have several different designs?

Yes, the purpose is to create shortcodes with their own designs and place them on whichever pages you want.

Can I hide the map?

Yes, the map above the shortcode can be turned on or off as you need.
